On Tuesday, U.S. embassies and consulates around the world paid homage to a Marxist anti-American organization by flying Black Lives Matter flags and banners to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the death of George Floyd at the hands of police.
As Breitbart reported, the U.S. State Department authorized the flag’s display at all U.S. “Diplomatic and Consular posts” on May 25. The entire memo, which was leaked by Human Events, can be seen below.
Part of that memo reads:
As outlined below, Chiefs of Mission may decide to hang BLM flags, as appropriate and depending on local context. This cable constitutes a blanket written authorization for calendar year 2021from the Under Secretary for Management (M) to display the BLM flag on the external-facing flagpole to any Chiefs of Mission who determine such a display is appropriate in light of local conditions. This is an authorization, not a requirement.
Apparently, several embassies and consulates decided to honor the Marxist, anti-police group. Breitbart posted several images of the banners:
As we mark the 1-year anniversary of the murder of George Floyd, we are reminded of injustices that persist and our commitment – and obligation – to seek justice, equality, and respect for all. #BLM pic.twitter.com/udiyt5JMaY

Today marks a year since the brutal murder of George Floyd. The senseless killing spurred Black Lives Matter protests to demand an end to systemic racism, what @SecBlinken has called "a time of reckoning in our nation." pic.twitter.com/c2gPTVH1WF

There’s more, but you get the point.
Responding to this display, Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, R-N.Y., and others introduced a measure banning the display of partisan political flags or banners at U.S. Embassies and Consulates.
Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11), today with House GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (NY-21), Congressmen Ken Buck (CO-04), Michael Guest (MS-03), Darrell Issa (CA-50), Brian Mast (FL-18), and Pete Sessions (TX-17), introduced the Stars and Stripes Act of 2021, legislation that directs the Secretary of State to restrict the display of certain flags or banners at diplomatic and consular posts around the world. Malliotakis’ bill is in response to Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s recent directive authorizing and encouraging all U.S. embassies overseas to display ‘Black Lives Matter’ flags and banners.
In a tweet, she noted:
Today I introduced the Stars & Stripes Act of 2021, legislation that would reverse @SecBlinken's directive allowing political & non-government flags to fly above embassies. Our flag is a beacon of freedom & hope – it should be the ONLY flag flown above our embassies overseas! 🇺🇸 pic.twitter.com/KG9k91VhIs

Blinken reportedly encouraged all U.S. embassies and diplomatic missions to honor the radical BLM movement on May 25, the anniversary of George Floyd’s death.
However, it is “inappropriate for President [Joe] Biden and Secretary Blinken to authorize and encourage the display of inherently political flags that are in no way affiliated with the U.S. Government over American embassies overseas,” Malliotakis noted in the press release:
The American flag is a beacon of freedom and hope for oppressed peoples around the world; it should be the primary flag flown above our embassies and that is what my legislation seeks to accomplish. The Administration’s directive is an insult to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our flag and our nation — especially as we head into Memorial Day weekend — and it is absolutely ridiculous that legislation is needed to correct this issue.
The news release said the BLM organization’s website promotes several “partisan political demands and initiatives” that include defunding the police.
“Our beautiful American flag should fly over our U.S. embassies around the world – not the flag of a political organization founded by Marxists,” said newly-elected House GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik. “I am proud to co-sponsor this legislation introduced by my colleague and friend Congresswoman Malliotakis.”
Breitbart noted the authorization to fly the BLM banner came after the “department authorized U.S. embassies to raise the LGBT pride flag on the same pole as the U.S. national flag during the month of June, which is considered ‘pride month’ by the LGBT community.”
Exit question: What’s next? Will Blinken authorize the display of the Hammer and Sickle?
