Thalys-TrainTwo Marines on a train, traveling between Amsterdam and Paris, heard a familiar sound coming from the bathroom.

They confronted a man from Northern Africa, who was equipped with an automatic rifle and a knife.  The terrorist was able to get off a few rounds, injuring three before the Marines subdued him and put an end to what could have been a much bloodier attack.  French officials praised the Marines for their courage and credited them for saving many more lives.

French officials are saying it’s too early to call it a terror attack but the probe is being led by France’s special anti terrorism police.  The suspect is a twenty six year old man from Morocco.

French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said the two Americans “were particularly courageous and showed great bravery in very difficult circumstances” and that “without their sangfroid we could have been confronted with a terrible drama.”
