Former President Donald Trump has seen the writing on the wall for some time. In fact, his 2016 campaign for President laid it all out plainly for us: The status quo in Washington DC is a toxic swamp of corruption, and he would be the perfect person to tear it out by its roots.
Of course, this riled the establishment cretins of The Beltway into a frenzy, and soon Trump was bearing the brunt of the well-oiled Washington machine as it sought to pave over his populism and install a bureaucratic parking lot in its place.
Now, as he continues to face threats from an overtly weaponized federal force, the presumptive 2024 GOP nominee is issuing a mighty directive.
Republicans in Congress should defund the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), at least temporarily, former President Donald Trump said on Wednesday morning, the day after his arraignment in New York City.
“REPUBLICANS IN CONGRESS SHOULD DEFUND THE DOJ AND FBI UNTIL THEY COME TO THEIR SENSES,” Trump wrote in an all caps post on Truth Social, concluding Democrats have weaponized law enforcement and are attempting to interfere in the upcoming election.
And then, in all caps as well:
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
He continued: “THE DEMOCRATS HAVE TOTALLY WEAPONIZED LAW ENFORCEMENT IN OUR COUNTRY AND ARE VICIOUSLY USING THIS ABUSE OF POWER TO INTERFERE WITH OUR ALREADY UNDER SIEGE ELECTIONS!”
The idea certainly wasn’t without support.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is among those who has said Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has “weaponized our sacred justice system” against Trump:
On Tuesday, McCarthy said Bragg is “attempting to interfere in our democratic process by invoking federal law to bring politicized charges against President Trump, admittedly using federal funds, while at the same time arguing that the peoples’ representatives in Congress lack jurisdiction to investigate this farce.”
In that same statement, McCarthy warned that that the weaponization of the federal justice process “will be held accountable by Congress,” although it remains unclear what that will look like.
Trump is facing 34 felony charges in New York City, stemming from an alleged misappropriation of business funds for the purpose of preventing political peril.
