How come every time Trump gets into office he magically frees all these American hostages I didn’t hear about for the last four years? https://t.co/0EvdwhbLnT

It’s that winning thing, Peachy.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
Marc Fogel, a Pennsylvania teacher arrested in August 2021 for bringing medical marijuana into Russia, was freed by the Kremlin and flown out of the country on Witkoff’s plane. Although Fogel began serving a 14-year sentence in June 2022, the Biden administration only designated him as wrongfully detained late last year.
A statement by Mike Waltz, Trump’s National Security Advisor, read, “Today, President Donald J. Trump and his Special Envoy Steve Witkoff are able to announce that Mr. Witkoff is leaving Russian airspace with Marc Fogel, an American who was detained by Russia. President Trump, Steve Witkoff and the President’s advisors negotiated an exchange that serves as a show of good faith from the Russians and a sign we are moving in the right direction to end the brutal and terrible war in Ukraine. Since President Trump’s swearing-in, he has successfully secured the release of Americans detained around the world, and President Trump will continue until all Americans being held are returned to the United States. By tonight, Marc Fogel will be on American soil and reunited with his family and loved ones thanks to President Trump’s leadership.” Newsweek
Marc Fogel was arrested in Russia in 2021 on drug charges after being caught with medical marijuana. He was sentenced to 14 years in prison upon his conviction in 2022. It took the Biden administration until 2024 to designate him as “wrongfully detained.”
The designation is based on a variety of factors, including the person’s itinerary and evidence of innocence, and what occurred to cause the arrest. Mr. Fogel was arrested at the Russian airport with approximately 17 grams of marijuana that he had been prescribed for chronic pain from a “debilitating spinal condition” he suffered for 30 years.
He was flown back to the US in Witkoff’s plane. Welcome home, Marc Fogel. Winning again.
