Liberals are not going to like this, but the Trump administration is going into sanctuary cities and arresting illegal aliens. Four hundred and ninety eight of them to be exact. Felons among the illegals flock to sanctuary cities because not only do they get protection from deportation generally, even when they do get caught committing a serious crime, the city’s DA often reduces the charges to a misdemeanor to prevent ICE from deporting them.
A study released this year shows that sanctuary cities have a higher violent crime rate than non-sanctuary cities.
An August 2016 study of the relationship between “sanctuary city” policies and crime rates shows that cities refusing to cooperate with federal immigration authorities consistently have significantly higher violent crimes rates than do non-sanctuary cities with similar populations and demographics, WND has found.
The study, published last fall by researchers from the University of California-Riverside and Highline College in Des Moines, Washington, is frequently cited by proponents of “sanctuary cities” who ignore or downplay one important detail – the actual crime statistics of the carefully selected cities chosen for the comparison model.
An analysis of the data by WND reveals that non-sanctuary cities comparable in population, size and demographics consistently – year over year – experience and report lower percentages of violent crime as well as lower percentages of property crimes.
Here is the rundown of the arrests and where they occurred.
Illegal aliens who are currently shielded from deportation by the Obama-created Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program were not targeted in the operation, though those individuals will become eligible for deportation as their temporary protected status expires over the next two years.
Of the illegal aliens arrested:
- 317 had criminal convictions
- 68 are immigration fugitives
- 104 are previously deported criminal aliens
- 18 are gang members or affiliates
The sanctuary cities targeted in the operation included:
- Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (107)
- Los Angeles, California (101)
- Denver, Colorado (63)
- Massachusetts statewide (50)
- New York City, New York (45)
- Portland, Oregon (33)
- Cook County, Illinois (30)
- Baltimore, Maryland (28)
- Santa Clara County, California (27)
- Washington, D.C. (14)
When the liberals complain about these arrests and rest assured that they will, remember the reason ICE has to conduct these raids to get criminals off the street is because sanctuary cities give them protection from paying for their crimes.
Acting ICE Director Tom Homan said in a statement that sanctuary cities’ protection of criminal illegal aliens is driving the federal agency to conduct focused operations in those major areas.
“Sanctuary jurisdictions that do not honor detainers or allow us access to jails and prisons are shielding criminal aliens from immigration enforcement and creating a magnet for illegal immigration,” Homan said. “As a result, ICE is forced to dedicate more resources to conduct at-large arrests in these communities.”
“ICE’s goal is to build cooperative, respectful relationships with our law enforcement partners to help prevent dangerous criminal aliens from being released back onto the streets. Non-cooperation policies severely undermine that effort at the expense of public safety,” Homan said.
These cities will continue to shield these criminals until the voters wake up to the fact that they are the victims of these predators and not the city leaders who shield them.
