The United States will never move forward as long as there are people demanding we go backward to the time of slavery. Rep Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) (you remember, the guy who pulled the fire alarm during an important Congressional hearing?) has signed on to HR 414 which was introduced by Cori Bush back in May last year to eliminate the “Black vs White wealth gap.” And it would only cost around $14 Trillion+. The bill has 9 sponsors, all far leftists, all woefully dumb about economics.
Bowman believes the Federal government can pay for it without raising taxes because the US “spent it into existence” during the pandemic. It’s magic!
“When COVID was destroying us, we invested in the American people in a way that kept the economy afloat. The government can invest the same way in reparations without raising taxes on anyone…Where did the money come from? We spent it into existence.” Jamaal Bowman to the Lohud Journal
Newsflash: The money spent during Covid did not really “keep our economy afloat” It perpetrated millions ($6 million according to Bloomberg) in fraud when monies were siphoned away from the small businesses who needed it and ended up in the “wrong pockets.”
The bill proposed in 2023 started at $14 Trillion, but by the time it passed would be at least $16 Trillion. Mr. Bowman believes every dollar spent for reparations would yield trillions more on the “back end.”
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
You cannot spend trillions into existence. The US debt at this point in history is over $34 Trillion and counting. Your grandchildren will be slaves to debt that they had nothing to do with.
The Black vs White wealth gap
The proposal stretches beyond slavery, to also cover restitution for more government policies the disenfranchised black Americans including “banking, consumer, housing, health, education, and employment discrimination.”
H.R. 414 also addresses the U.S.’s failure to “keep Black people safe from or actively sanctioning White domestic terrorism and failing to prosecute it when it occurred,” as well as “the impacts of government-imposed segregation.”
The bill states that “financial reparations must be paid by the Federal Government for an amount that respected economists have estimated totals, at minimum, $14,000,000,000,000 to eliminate the racial wealth gap that currently exists between Black and White Americans.” Breitbart
When the US government agreed to pay reparations to WWII Japanese who were interred, they put in motion a precedent that is now coming back to haunt us. However, the vast difference in number of Japanese involved versus Black Americans (not all of whom are related to slaves) is stunning. There are around 42 million Black Americans, according to the 2020 Census. If you broke it up into partial payments, each person would get around $333,000 over the course of the bill.
So far, the bill has gone nowhere. There is no Senate sponsor, so it likely will not pass. As far as the racial wealth gap goes, how does Mr. Bowman explain his own salary of $174,000 per year? It is hard work that has brought hundreds of thousands of Black Americans wealth that exceeds many whites. Discrimination is a crime, and “white domestic terrorism” is not sanctioned by the Federal government – this is proven by the FBI’s weaponized actions against ordinary folks.
HR 414 – keep it defeated.
