700 Iranian elite fighters descended upon the Golan Heights during October. The “Syrian Resistance of the Liberation of Golan” reportedly came from all over the Middle East to control the Syrian side of the Golan. What is the intent? To perhaps open another front in the Israeli-Hamas War so that they can inflict severe hardship on the Israeli people by taking away their third largest source of water. They have come in clumps to the region since October 17.
“SOHR sources have confirmed that the so-called “Elite forces”, comprising members of the “Syrian Resistance of the Liberation of Golan” and fighters of Syrian, Iraqi, Palestinian and other nationalities, have imposed their control over areas surrounding the occupied Syrian Golan in Al-Qunaitrah countryside, western Rif Dimashq and parts of western Daraa countryside.
It is worth noting that those members had trained by Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The number of the members of the “Elite forces” is estimated to be more than 700 fighters who arrived to the area during October in batches, without any coordination with the military leadership of the Syrian regime.” Syrian Observatory for Human Rights
The Golan Heights is a strategic water source for Israel, primarily from Lake Tiberias (also known as the Biblical Sea of Galilee). The Iranian elite fighters are said to be in control of the areas around Quneitra, western Rif Dimashq, and western Daraa.

According to the SOHR, the elite troops were told not to fire their weapons into Israel…at least unless they are told to do so at a later time of course. However, there are individual groups now in ‘control’ of the areas in the Golan Heights that may not pay attention to any blanket rule, particularly since they arrived in the region without coordination with the Syrian Military. It could open up a new front on the Israel-Hamas war.
For years, the Iranian brigades allied with Syria’s regime have viewed Israel as their top target. Israel already has a two-front war – a third front could devastate their water supply.
