China is throwing a fit over Nancy Pelosi’s planned trip to Taiwan next month. China is the neighbrhood bully…even in the international scene. As much as we’re not fond of her, having Communist China tell any US diplomat or member of Congress what to do is a sign of extreme weakness. Could Pelosi start WWIII just by traveling to Taipei?
China’s government warned on Tuesday it would take “forceful measures” if U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan, after the Financial Times said she would go to the Chinese-claimed island next month.
Pelosi and her delegation will also visit Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore, and spend time in Hawaii at the headquarters of U.S. Indo-Pacific command, the London paper added, citing people familiar with the matter.
Taiwan is practicing in case of military response by China: air raid drills with sirens that tell residents to stay off the streets for 30 minutes. They have mass texts to send out in case of imminent attacks. They’re testing their missile warning systems.

China is loudly protesting. Like the neighborhood bully that wants to control everyone, they’ve made it abundantly clear that no American Speaker of the House should set foot on the island of Taiwan. And they plan to take some sort of “action.” Last time Nancy Pelosi was scheduled to go, the trip was postponed because she tested positive for Covid. In April, a bipartisan delegation of six lawmakers went to the island in defiance of Beijing.

“The Chinese side has made it clear to the U.S. on many occasions that it is firmly opposed to Speaker Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan. We are fully prepared. If the U.S. goes its own way, China will certainly take firm and forceful measures to safeguard its national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the United States should be held responsible for any serious consequences.”

Meanwhile, the US government plans to sell $108 Million in arms to Taiwan over the objections of the Communist Mainland.
