Texas National Guard Deploys 1,000 More Troops to Border

One thousand troops from the Texas National Guard have been deployed to the border in yet another attempt to secure it, according to Breitbart. According to the DHS, in just the last three weeks, 44,000 individuals from 52 countries illegally crossed the border into Texas. Gov Greg Abbott and his colleagues hope to help stem that tide with the additional troops.

“The crisis at our southern border is unlike anything we’ve witnessed before and has put an enormous strain on the existing resources we have in place. With the deployment of these troops, we are taking action to confront the crisis at the border and keep potentially dangerous criminals and illegal activity out of our communities. By working together with our federal partners, we will continue to pursue a strong and comprehensive strategy to secure our border.” Texas Gov Greg Abbott

The task for these troops will be providing “supplemental staffing support at the temporary holding facilities as well as supplemental enforcement support at ports of entry,” according to the Governor’s office.  The DHS will build more detention facilities in the Rio Grande Valley, and the Texas National Guard troops will assist in staffing them.

Congress

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Congress should be securing our borders. It’s their job to keep Americans safe. The Senate advanced a bill to the Senate Floor that approved $4.59 Billion in emergency funds for ‘humanitarian efforts’ at the border. The Senate committee advanced it with a vote of 30-1- the only holdout being a Democrat. It’s not exactly enough, but it’s something. (Roll Call)

But the House, on the other hand, is advancing its own version and is likely to contain a few ‘poison pills.’ The two versions are in a race to see which one gets approval first before the July 4th recess. The Senate bill appears to be pretty much bipartisan. Details on the House bill are “sketchy.”

In January a bill (HR 85) to fund the “wall” died in House committees and went nowhere fast. It’s the politics that make Americans angry with Congress. They do not seem to care about either the people of Texas or anyone else.
