Update on Incident at NSA Headquarters:

Three men are in custody after the incident in Maryland Wednesday morning. The FBI will be taking the lead in the investigation, and at this point they do not believe it had a “nexus” in terrorism. Preliminarily they say that no one was injured from gunfire, but said that was part of the investigation. One NSA police officer and one civilian sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were hospitalized. One person in the car was taken to the hospital as well, but the FBI did not give his status. Motive is unknown.

Original story:

Maryland: The FBI, and NSA police were investigating reports of a shooting at the security gate near the NSA headquarters on Fort Meade. A black SUV appeared to have rammed into the concrete barriers at the entrance off Route 32. The suspect is in custody. At least one person was injured and taken to the hospital.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

The Black SUV reportedly had bullet holes in the windshield (which would be standard when trying to run a security gate at the NSA). The injuries may have been vehicle related, not shooting related, as many news media are reporting, according to ABC. The injured person may have been an officer, according to the Washington Post.

The NSA issued this statement:

“NSA police and local law enforcement are addressing an incident that took place this morning at one of NSA’s secure vehicle entry gates.
The situation is under control and there is no ongoing security or safety threat.”

The incident occurred just before 7:30 a.m. as a black SUV appeared to attempt to crash through a security gate. The President was briefed on the situation.

USA Today reported,

“In video taken by WUSA-TV, a black SUV with bullet holes in the windshield is shown slammed against a concrete barrier near the gates of the NSA, which is located on the grounds of Fort Meade in Maryland. Video footage from WRC-TV shows police surrounding a handcuffed man sitting on the ground near the vehicle.

Fort Meade garrison spokeswoman Cheryl Phillips confirmed by phone that one person was injured in the shooting outside the base and taken to the hospital.”

Most of the news media are getting their information from the aerial videos taken, and other photographs. The limited statements by police, FBI, and the NSA are not detailed. The FBI’s Evidence Response Team Unit from the Baltimore Field office are reportedly on scene working in conjunction with the NSA, according to Yahoo News.

Route 32 that goes by the NSA Headquarters was closed in both directions for a period of time.
