A new Rasmussen survey released Tuesday shows 59 percent of likely U.S. voters support the Canadian truckers who are protesting COVID-19 restrictions imposed by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Trudeau’s exercise of the nation’s Emergencies Act reportedly has not deterred the truck drivers, who have essentially shut paralyzed Ottawa and blocked border crossings, according to Fox News.

Rasmussen’s survey, which was conducted over the weekend, found that 33 percent of American voters oppose the trucker protest. The survey also found that 51 percent think Trudeau should end the COVID-19 restrictions, while 35 percent “don’t think Trudeau should concede to protest leaders.”

By no surprise 55 percent of Democrats think Trudeau should not lift the restrictions, while a whopping 71 percent of Republicans and 55 percent of Independent voters believe he should.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Overall, said Rasmussen, “The Canadian trucker protests are supported by 77% of Republicans, 40% of Democrats and 60% of voters not affiliated with either major party. Fifty percent (50%) of Democratic voters oppose the Canadian trucker protests, as do 17% of Republicans and 30% of unaffiliated voters.”

There is much at stake for Trudeau, who many believe could be on the ropes politically for the way he is handling this national protest. Important border crossings have been blocked, but within the past couple of days, police have moved in to clear the blockades.

Canadian truckers launched the “Freedom Convoy” late last month. According to Rasmussen, 54 percent of likely voters “say they would support trucker protests against COVID-19 restrictions in the United States, including 36% who would Strongly Support such protests.”

North of the border, Trudeau’s actions appear to have only steeled the resolve of truckers. One man, identified as Edward Martyrosya, told Fox News, “The more they are trying to put us to the corner, the more we are willing to stand our ground.”

Another trucker identified as Jan Groen told Fox that Trudeau’s actions were “disgusting.”

And trucker/farmer Derek Brouwer was quoted observing, “If anything, it makes him (Trudeau) look incompetent to do his job.”

According to Fox, “Canada’s Emergencies Act broadens the government’s authority to handle what it considers an emergency, allowing it to take action such as suspending rights to assemble and cutting off financial support.”
