The Supreme Court issued a ruling on Monday morning that could cause leftists to have a coronary. In a unanimous decision, the court ruled that Trump may stay on the 2024 ballot. Several states, including the Colorado ruling, sought to delete Trump from the Presidential election based on the idea that he caused an “insurrection” on January 6th, 2021. They lost.
The ruling reads in part:
A group of Colorado voters contends that Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution prohibits former President Donald J. Trump, who seeks the Presidential nomination of the Republican Party in this year’s election, from becoming President again. The Colorado Supreme Court agreed with that contention. It ordered the Colorado secretary of state to exclude the former President from the Republican primary ballot in the State and to disregard any write-in votes that Colorado voters might cast for him.
Former President Trump challenges that decision on several grounds. Because the Constitution makes Congress,
rather than the States, responsible for enforcing Section 3 against federal officeholders and candidates, we reverse…This case raises the question whether the States, in addition to Congress, may also enforce Section 3. We conclude that States may disqualify persons holding or attempting to hold state office. But States have no power under the Constitution to enforce Section 3 with respect to federal offices, especially the Presidency.
As expected, the court stated that Congress is the only branch able to remove a national candidate based on the nebulous “insurrection” – which former President Trump was never charged with, by the way.
An “insurrection” never happened on January 6. There were no real weapons. Washington DC is notorious for their rigid gun control rules. An “insurrection” without guns is not possible, since the crowd was at the mercy of the Capitol and Metro police. The rally turned into a riot, one that most believe was set up by DC law enforcement and Democrat operatives.
