State takes teen daughter from Christian parents for refusal to support gender transition

Indeed, these are “interesting” times…  On Wednesday, LifeSite News reported that authorities in Ohio forced Christian parents to give up legal custody of their daughter after they opposed her decision to identify as a boy and transition to being a male.

According to Fr. Mark Hodges:

The Hamilton County Job and Family Services took legal custody of the teenage girl, 17, who, according to court records, suffers from gender dysphoria. The teen is currently living with her maternal grandparents. The girl’s name and the names of her parents are under court seal.

The minor was diagnosed with depression, anxiety, and gender dysphoria after being hospitalized in 2016. Doctors decided that because she wants to identify as a male, she should be given testosterone and sex “change” drugs.

But the girl’s parents objected, arguing that they did not think that such “treatment” was in their daughter’s best interest.

A juvenile court judge will determine if parental rights for the minor should be entirely stripped.

Hodges notes that the grandparents involved, as well as the county prosecutor and doctors pressuring the court were all pro-transgender.

The doctors claimed the girl might commit suicide if she didn’t receive opposite-sex hormones and “witnesses” claimed the parents’ rejection of their daughter’s decision to identify as a male has made her suicidal.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

The court-appointed guardian observed: “We think the grandparents are the ones who have an open mind” regarding sex change hormones, while “the parents have clearly indicated that they’re not open to it.”

The girl’s and the grandparents’ lawyers also argued that the parents’ sending the girl to Catholic school where the dress code requires female clothing “caused additional trauma and anxiety” increasing her “suicidal ideation.”

According to the grandparents’ lawyers, even hearing the girl’s name, or just seeing it on documents “has become a very big trigger” for her, which allegedly “caused trauma.”

“The name has become a very big trigger,” added Thomas Mellott, the teen’s lawyer, referring to the youngster as a male. “It has gotten to the point where my client mentioned that he doesn’t want to think about college at this point because the marketing materials he’s getting keep using the birth name.

“He gets really good grades. He is academically inclined and participates in the band and was really engaged in school, and then all the sudden, this happened,” Mellott added. “It’s been incredibly hard.”

Fox 61, referring to the girl with male pronouns, added:

In November 2016, the teen had contacted a crisis chat service to say he felt unsafe in his parents’ home, according to the complaint. The teen reported that his father told him to kill himself, because he was “going to hell anyway,” according to a transcript of the closing arguments.

The complaint further states that an investigation found that the parents temporarily stopped their child’s mental health counseling. And the therapist got an email from the mother saying they were seeking “Christian” therapy instead. The teen said he was forced to sit in a room and listen to Bible readings for over six hours at a time, according to the complaint.

The parents’ attorney denied the allegations in court. Brinkman said the parents’ objection to medical treatment, particularly hormone treatment, for “this gender thing” does not come solely from their religious belief. Brinkman argued that they “have done their due diligence contacting medical professionals, collecting thousands of hours of research and relying on … their observation of their own child … that led them to the conclusion that this is not in their child’s best interest.”

Hodges said that a juvenile court judge will determine if parental rights should be entirely stripped, adding that a decision is expected by Friday.
