Send in the Clowns: U2’s Bono believes we should fight ISIS with comedy

Life Magazine page 49Most of us have heard some really absurd ideas in our lifetime, but the latest half-baked idea just might take the cake (pun intended). Someone should give the frontman for U2 a razzie award for the dumbest idea yet.

Does Bono really believe that ISIS can be fought with comedy? What happens if the clown sent to make them laugh offends them? Yeah we all know how that would turn out; the clown would lose their head, literally.

With the history of radical Muslims we all know that there would probably be an immediate fatwā issued calling for the beheading of all clowns. For some folks this would be a great idea because clowns can be the stuff of nightmares.

Bono testified before a U.S. Senate subcommittee on Capitol Hill Tuesday, with an immediate call for action on how to deal with the refugee crisis and terrorism. His idea is to send in the clowns, also known as comedians, to fight ISIS with their comedy routines. He believes they are the key to fighting extremism. Talk about a three-ring circus, it would be a riot.

According to Contactmusic.com Bono said on Tuesday, “The first people that Adolf Hitler threw out of Germany were the dadaists and surrealists. Don’t laugh, I think comedy should be deployed. It’s like, you speak violence, you speak their language. But if you laugh at them when they’re goose-stepping down the street, and it takes away their power. So I am suggesting that the Senate send in Amy Schumer and Chris Rock and Sacha Baron Cohen.”

Wait a minute perhaps Bono might be onto something here, maybe we should send in the clowns, but instead of Schumer, Rock or Cohen we should send in Pennywise the Dancing Clown from Stephen Kings’ novel, “It.” This would be one clown who just might get the job done of eliminating all the terrorists.

Amy Schumer’s reaction was immediate and you can see how she replied on Twitter.

You can watch the U2 frontman testify before the Senate in the video below and let us know what you think about his idea to “send in the clowns.”
