Senate Antifa Hearings: A Firsthand Look at Anarchy in America

“The Right of the People Peaceably to Assemble: Protecting Speech by Stopping Anarchist Violence” was the official title of the Senate Antifa hearings chaired by Senator Ted Cruz on Tuesday.  After Jerold Nadler called Antifa a “myth” the other day, this hearing should have been eye opening for the Congressional members living under the basement, but instead, it became a political game.

Senate Antifa

Senate Antifa Hearings

The Senator showed a video of Antifa violence to the members of the Senate subcommittee. Ted Cruz pointed out that of the Democrats that testified, not even one of them would condemn Antifa. Not. Even. One.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

And when Mazie Hirono (D-HI) took a turn, she condemned Cruz, Trump and the Republicans instead of saying anything about the violent actions of Antifa. The Democrats claimed that Trump sent in the “secret police” to cause agitation. It was a theme of the hearings: Republicans trying to show the violence of Antifa, and the Democrats blaming Trump. There appeared to be no talking about Antifa on the Democrat side whatsoever. Unless it was to point out the actions of  white supremacists. Seven witnesses, seven solid pieces of information, Democrat silence on Antifa violence.

Those “stormtroopers”

When Acting Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Ken Cuccinelli testified, Senator Cruz asked him point blank if he sent in “secret police.” He responded, “We have no troops, we have no secret police.”

Both he and Senator Cruz pointed out that the officers were NOT “unidentified” as Democrats claimed…They have bright yellow lettering on their uniforms that say ‘Police.’

“Cuccinelli is asked by Cruz about the claim by Democrats that they are “secret police” and both note the big yellow “Police” sign on officers. As for unmarked cars, Cuccinelli says that police cars have been set on fire during protests and so it makes sense that officers don’t drive around in marked vehicles.” Fox live blog

Cuccinelli told the committee that there have been 113 eye injuries from lasers, and 277 other injuries to 140 officers. He told them that the rioters approach police with their shields up and shine the lasers directly into the eyes. He also picked up a frozen water bottle and banged it on the desk to show the committee that those are the kinds of things officers are being struck with, including fireworks.

“I unequivocally condemn anyone who engages in violence, whether it’s from the Right or Left. This shouldn’t be a political game. My argument is simple: Don’t kill people. Don’t engage in acts of violence.” Senator Ted Cruz

Senator Lindsey Graham asked Cuccinelli,

“If we had done nothing, what would have happened to the courthouse, Mr. Cuccinelli, in Portland?”

Cuccinelli responded, “That courthouse wouldn’t be there.”

Graham stated, “So I challenge anyone on the other side to say differently. If we hadn’t intervened they’d have burned the godd**n thing down.”

Antifa is “winning”

The second panel of witnesses included Law Professor Jonathan Turley, of George Washington University.  He remarked that he was upset to see his profession dying because of fear of groups like Antifa; he stated that faculty were afraid to allow free speech.

“Antifa is arguably the most successful anti-speech movement of this generation and they are “winning.” They are winning, they are winning because universities are now effectively blocking conservative and opposing speakers, they are winning because media and politicians downplay such violence. They are winning because local authorities are ordering police to stand down or prosecutors to drop charges. They are winning because free speech is being treated as a destabilizing or threatening factor in our schools or society…Faculty are afraid to speak out about issues…there’s a fear that you might be called reactionary or racist.” Professor of Law Jonathan Turley

None of the testimony Tuesday seemed to phase the Democrats, and Hirono and Cruz argued on her way out of the Senate Antifa hearing room because Democrats only focus on white supremacists. It’s a time-worn argument. There is no dialogue with Democrats over  Antifa violence. They are set to believe that everything is Trump’s fault and nothing will sway them. And the constant claim that he is “racist” and “doesn’t condemn white supremacists” is at the heart of their rhetoric. He has continually condemned those who adhere to the lies of white supremacists, but they are the ones ‘not listening.’

The Daily Caller reported,

Before getting up to leave the hearing, Hirono said “we can all agree” on denouncing “violent extremism of all stripes.”

“So to constantly accuse Democrats of not caring about that is … I can only say that you aren’t listening,” she added. “So I hope this is the end of this hearing, Mr. Chairman, and we don’t have to listen to any more of your rhetorical speeches. Thank you very much. I’m leaving.”

“I appreciate the, as always, the kind and uplifting words of Senator Hirono. And I would also note that throughout her remarks she still did not say a negative word about Antifa, nor has any Democrat here. They instead engage in a political game where they depend — you’re welcome to say something negative about Antifa right now.”

Crickets. As we draw closer to the election, we must remember that these Democrats are NOT reasonable people. You can’t talk to them rationally because they are not rational. Their agenda is to rid themselves of Donald J. Trump and that’s the only thing on their agenda. Never mind the violence of Antifa.
