Republicans running scared? Axios says GOP ‘wipeout’ feared in 2020

Are Republicans running scared of a “wipeout” in 2020?

That’s the story from Axios.com, which is claiming “A growing number of Republicans are privately warning of increasing fears of a total wipeout in 2020: House, Senate, and White House.”

While President Donald Trump continues to draw crowds into the thousands at his rallies, Axios warns “House Republicans in swing districts are retiring at a very fast pace, especially in the suburbs of Texas and elsewhere.” The story also notes that the president “trails every major Democratic candidate nationally and in swing states — and his favorable ratings remain well under 50%.”

Rasmussen is reporting the results of an online and telephone survey showing 38 percent of likely voters will probably vote for someone other than the president or his Democrat challenger, including 22 percent who are “very likely” to go with a third party candidate.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

And Rasmussen’s daily presidential tracking poll shows 46 percent of likely voters approve of the president’s job performance while 53 percent disapprove, and this is after the top ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was killed in a U.S. Military operation, and his heir-apparent Abu Hassan al-Muhajir was also killed in a separate action.

Could it be that media bias is downplaying al-Baghdadi’s elimination in favor of covering the impeachment proceedings?

According to Axios, “The Republican Senate majority, once considered relatively safe, suddenly looks in serious jeopardy. Democrats are raising more money, and polling better, than Republican incumbents in battleground after battleground.”

Also, Trump is trailing every major Democratic candidate “nationally and in swing states.”

Despite what one may hear from Fox News about the economy, employment, and “fake news” from the establishment media, there appears to be real trouble brewing. Whether that is responsible for the number of Republicans bailing, or vice versa, would be speculation at this point.

What needs to happen between now and November 2020? Trump and Capitol Hill Republicans need to fire up their bases, and that needs to happen sooner than later.

A year in politics is an eternity. The nation’s gun owners could make a difference, but presently they appear to be generally complacent. Hunting seasons are on, and many do not perceive a threat is looming over the horizon if Democrats take control of Congress and the White House.

What’s that saying? “Just because you do not take an interest in politics doesn’t mean politics won’t take an interest in you.” Pericles, the Greek statesman (495-429 BC). What was true 2,500 years ago remains true today.
