Republicans remind anti-gun-rights Dems: ‘Criminals don’t obey the law’

House Democrats passed a pair of gun control bills Thursday.

House Democrats are grinning from ear to ear following Thursday’s successful votes to pass a pair of gun control measures but Republicans and tens of millions of Second Amendment activists are convinced more than ever the “party of gun control” wants to become the “party of gun rights erosion” and “gun confiscation.”

Democrats left no doubt the passage of H.R. 8, the “Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2021,” and H.R.1446, the “Enhanced Background Checks Act of 2021,” are just the “first steps” in what they plan to accomplish now that they control Capitol Hill and the White House.

According to NPR, anti-gun Sen. Charles Schumer “vowed to bring up legislation expanding background checks up for a vote, but it does not have the 60 votes needed in the chamber to advance.”

Democrats have sold gun control to the American public with the argument the nation is in the midst of a “gun violence crisis.”

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Gun owners know the difference.

As reported by ABC News, “Some Republicans strongly objected to the expanded checks, one saying they’re “meant to turn law-abiding citizens into criminals.” In the process, several GOP Congressmen and women speaking against H.R. 8 were adamant that the bill will not prevent criminals from being armed, a contention to which Democrat supporters seemed welded.

Congressman Jody Hice (R-GA) argued H.R. 8 will not accomplish what those supporters claim.

“We all know that, by definition, criminals don’t abide by the law,” he stressed. “This bill will not make our communities safer. In fact, what it will do is cause law-abiding citizens to lose more of their Second Amendment rights.”

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX), a former judge stated, “We are told yet again that this will save lives, and yet, there is not one single mass killing that’s been brought up here today that would have been prevented by this bill.”

“I think we had thousands of cases, felony cases that came through my court,” Gohmert recalled about his time on the bench. “Over and over you hear the criminals, they’re not obeying the law. They’re not going to follow the law. They got their guns illegally. This will not change at all any of those people we tried and convicted for getting guns. They steal them. They buy them from other people that stole them. They don’t obey the law. That’s why they are criminals.”

Studies have shown that criminals do not get guns from sources anti-gunners have repeatedly demonized and targeted. Less than one percent of criminals get their guns from gun shows. They also don’t purchase firearms at retail, with the noted exception that several mass shooters have successfully bought guns from established gun stores because prior to their mayhem, they had no criminal record.

Anti-gun House Speaker Nancy Pelosi spoke with boilerplate precision, commenting, “The gun violence crisis in America is a challenge to the conscience of our country — one that demands that we act.”

Both bills now head for the Senate, where the 50-50 split may translate to tough sledding because not all Democrats will be on board.

Alan Gottlieb, chairman of the grassroots Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, declared them to be “extremist” legislation, and he is concerned this will open the way for House passage of an even more onerous bill, H.R. 127.

“With Thursday’s House passage of two extremist gun control measures covering so-called ‘universal background checks’ and closing the so-called ‘Charleston loophole,’ it opens the pathway for Congress to focus on H.R. 127,” Gottlieb stated.

CCRKBA is conducting a national television campaign warning gun owners about the sweeping provisions of H.R. 127, sponsored by anti-gun Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a far-left Houston, Texas Democrat.

H.R. 127 represents the “tip of the gun control iceberg,” Gottlieb said.

The measure includes gun owner licensing and registration, psychological examinations of gun owners, mandatory insurance, mandatory minimum prison sentences for non-compliance, and bans on whole classes of firearms and original capacity magazines.
