Reports of Russian Soldiers Raping Ukrainian Women Spark Int’l Outrage

The rules of engagement are changing in Ukraine, and the west must respond.

War is hell.  Always has been, always will be.

But war cannot and must not be a segue into pure and unadulterated evil.  It cannot progress into the sort of inhumane horrors that we’ve survived before.

Yet here we are, with new reports out of Ukraine that detail horrifying and ungodly acts being committed by Russian troops.

As the war rages on for a ninth day, Ukraine’s foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba alleged there have been reports of Putin’s soldiers sexually assaulting Ukrainian women.

He told a briefing at Chatham House: “We have numerous cases of, unfortunately, when Russian soldiers rape women in the Ukrainian cities.”

Kuleba backed a call for the creation of a special tribunal to punish Moscow’s aggression as Russia’s hostility escalates beyond bombing.

Kuleba said international law “is the only tool of civilisation that is available to us to make sure that in the end, eventually, all those who made this war possible will be brought to justice”.

NATO and western allies have largely been hesitant to involve themselves in the combat occurring in Ukraine, but reports of such atrocities have a way of swaying the good people of the world as well.
