A new Rasmussen survey published Thursday shows Donald Trump still has lots of fans within the ranks of Republican voters, with 73 percent saying “Trump is still the kind of leader the Republican Party needs.”
Only 24 percent think the party needs someone other than the former president in a leadership position. The survey was taken from 1,000 likely voters on Feb. 16-17 with a margin of sampling error of +/- 3 percentage points.
According to Rasmussen, 42 percent of likely voters “say the recent impeachment proceedings against Trump didn’t make much difference in their opinion of the former president,” while “28% said they have a better opinion of Trump after his second impeachment.”
Trump is the only president in U.S. history to be impeached twice and vindicated both time. Democrats incurred considerable wrath for attempting to impeach the former president, once he had left office. The action is seen by many to be nothing more than vindictiveness and an attempt to prevent Trump from ever holding federal public office again.

Only 13 percent of Republicans said impeachment resulted in a lower opinion of the 45th president. Trump believed the election to have been stolen, with massive voter fraud in several key states. Several lawsuits challenging the election results were tossed, however.
The daily presidential tracking poll shows 50 percent of all voters think Joe Biden is doing the job, while 48 percent disapprove, Rasmussen said.
In a separate survey, Rasmussen learned that 65 percent of likely voters think Congress “should investigate whether officials are reporting accurate information about COVID-19 cases.”
In that poll, according to Rasmussen, “Seventy-four percent (74%) of GOP voters support such an investigation, as do 60% of Democrats and 59% of voters not affiliated with either major party.”
Fox News has been covering a scandal surrounding New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo who allegedly withheld data relating to COVID-19 and nursing homes. Assemblyman Ron Kim told Fox News about a conference call with Democratic lawmakers. At the time, “top Cuomo aide Melissa DeRosa said the administration withheld the true nursing home death toll from lawmakers because officials “froze” when confronted by the prospect of a federal investigation into the matter,” Fox reported, referring to a story in the New York Post.
