Updated: Queen Elizabeth, 96, Dies At Balmoral

With God Save The Queen sung as her national anthem, it’s hardly surprising that her life has been as long as it is.

It is certainly true that the ‘long to reign over us’ part of that anthem has already been an answered prayer. She’s at the point where she’s playing in overtime and nobody is quite sure how much longer even her considerable strength can hold out.

Because of her venerable age, news reports like this one are taken seriously.

Queen Elizabeth II has had a health setback and her family members are being called to her side where she is resting in Scotland’s Balmoral castle.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Prince Andrew and Princess Anne are both expected in Scotland with one of the Royal Family’s helicopters landing in the grounds of Her Majesty’s Scottish home this morning.
Prime Minister Liz Truss said: ‘The whole country will be deeply concerned by the news from Buckingham Palace this lunchtime.
‘My thoughts – and the thoughts of people across our United Kingdom – are with Her Majesty The Queen and her family at this time.’
A royal spokesman said: ‘Following further evaluation this morning, The Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision. The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral.’
A statement about the Queen’s health is exceptionally rare and suggests the situation is serious. One insider said: ‘This is deeply worrying. The Palace don’t normally do this’.

Queen Elizabeth has served as the monarch of not only the United Kingdom, but the British Commonwealth since her coronation on June 2, 1953, at the very beginning of the Cold War.

With Liz Truss taking over as the United Kingdom’s Prime Minister just days ago, Elizabeth has now served as queen through the tenures of sixteen different Prime Ministers.

That’s one way to frame the perspective on how long she has served as queen. Here’s another:

Elizabeth gave birth to Prince Charles, her firstborn when she was 22 years old and ascended to the throne when she was 27.

Charles is now 73 years old… which is surprisingly old for someone who has spent his whole life waiting as the heir-apparent.

UPDATE: Queen Elizabeth II has died at Balmoral.  She was an amazing lady.  Rest in peace:
