Putin’s Speech Spelled Out a New Purge – Thousands Flee Russia in Fear

Putin’s speech on Wednesday spelled out a new purge — very real terror foisted upon the Russian people. On March 16th, he threatened his own countrymen with a cleansing of “traitors and bastards” who don’t like his actions. (Military.com) He said he didn’t judge those who don’t live in Russia as long as they “think” like the Kremlin.

“The collective West is attempting to splinter our society. Speculating on military losses, on socio-economic effects of sanctions, in order to provoke a people’s rebellion in Russia…But any people, the Russian people especially, are able to distinguish true patriots from bastards and traitors, and will spit them out like a gnat that accidentally flew into their mouths — spit them out on the pavement…

I am convinced that such a natural and necessary self-purification of society will only strengthen our country, our solidarity, cohesion and readiness to respond to any challenges.” Vladimir Putin‘s speech

Possessed: Putin channeling Stalin?

Putin’s speech is signaling a new wave of repression against his own people. Literally thousands are fleeing Russia, in fear of being detained, imprisoned if they disagree with his invasion of Ukraine. It is against the law in Russia to disagree with the Kremlin. The new law makes it a crime to “spread misinformation” about Putin’s actions. (Warning: does that sound familiar from our “cancel culture rhetoric? If it doesn’t, batten the hatches, America). According to the human rights organization OVD, nearly 15,000 people have already been detained for opposing the war, with 7 criminal courts already set up.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Anyone who has studied history should know that Putin’s speech on Wednesday carried familiar themes from Josef Stalin’s “Great Purge.” When Putin used the term “Fifth Column” to describe those he views as traitors who are serving to divide Russia, it was the same as Stalin using the term to say that he was purging Russia of those who were standing against “unity.” What’s the true price of unity, if it’s at the point of a gun?

Anyone who disagrees with Putin’s actions are labeled as traitors. He has disbanded independent news media. He is having people arrested for protesting his actions. Putin has moved from saying that Ukraine is a viable nation to crushing every vestige of it. Stalin murdered hundreds of thousands of Russians, maybe millions, throwing others into Gulags to die under torture. Is this the fate that Russia and Ukraine face?

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn in The Gulag Archipelago

Vladimir Putin’s speech reflected anger for many reasons. The slow progress of his own army, the sanctions against Russia, the entire scenario has him angry and frustrated. The angrier he becomes, the more danger he poses. He appeared at a massive “pro-war” rally in Moscow in March 18 in which some left as soon as they got their tickets punched to prove they attended.

His speech on Wednesday tells us that he is no longer rational – the number of citizens fleeing tells us that many of his citizens are aware of the problem. It will not matter if the world gives him an “off-ramp.” He is possessed.
