A gun control package entitled the “Protecting Our Kids Act” is on the House agenda for Thursday but six of the eight bills contained in the package would not have stopped the Uvalde shooter. The Democrats will never understand that criminals do not read nor obey the laws. The one thing they don’t have the votes for is a ban on AR platform rifles, so it is not in the package of gun control bills. Basically, it’s simple virtue signaling.
The Protecting Our Kids Act
The omnibus package includes bills to raise the purchasing age for semi-automatic rifles from 18 to 21; ban the import, sale, manufacture, transfer or possession of high-capacity ammunition magazines, although existing magazines are “grandfathered” in; requires existing bump stocks be registered under the National Firearms Act and bars the manufacture, sale, or possession of new bump stocks for civilian use; amends the definition of “ghost guns” to require background checks on all sales, as ATF is trying to do through rulemaking; beefs up federal criminal penalties for gun trafficking and “straw purchases”; and establishes new requirements for storing guns at home – especially with minors present – while providing tax credits for storage devices…

Thursday, Democrats hope to force this “hodgepodge” out of committee and on to the floor. There are plans to take up bills on a Federal Red Flag Law, which is opposed by several Republicans. Talks have been ongoing for the Senate as well. It’s that Democrat philosophy of “never let a good crisis go to waste.” As usual, these bills only target law abiding citizens, not criminals or the mental problems that have gripped our nation.
“I am encouraged by the bipartisan conversations in the Senate on legislation that could save lives by taking long-overdue steps to address gun violence. In addition, I have announced the House will take up legislation to create a national ‘red flag’ law to ensure those who pose an immediate threat to themselves or others are unable to possess a firearm.”

Newsflash Mr. Hoyer, we are not “encouraged” by those conversations. We are upset by them. They do not even come close to facing the real problems. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) spoke at the NRA Leadership Forum, and had several things to say about the current situation. These are short clips from Twitter, but they exemplify an approach that differs from the Democrats constant ‘it’s-the-gun’ narrative.

The horrific violence of recent days should have been stopped before it began, and the narratives are edging close and closer to mess with the 2nd amendment. Call your Reps and Senators and encourage them to vote against the “Protecting our kids act.”
