When Barack Obama told America that he was exercising discretion over the Dreamers, it opened a Pandora’s box. In America today, there are two sets of laws: one to be ignored and one to be prosecuted. One to be used by leftists to take down Conservatives as well as a former President and one to allow criminals the freedom to continue to commit crimes. Prosecutorial discretion was never meant to ignore the laws of the land, it was meant to help prosecutors make their best case. It has become something entirely different.
The travesty
Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg issued a ‘zero day’ memo on taking office that told prosecutors not to seek prison sentences for armed robbers. Bragg then labored to indict former President Trump while bypassing such niceties as the statute of limitations and the actual nature of the crime.
Such prosecutorial discretion has become routine in New York where Attorney General Letita James has championed criminal justice reform while targeting not only Trump, but the NRA. Bragg’s predecessor, DA Cyrus Vance, gave Jeffrey Epstein and Harvey Weinstein a pass. He announced that he wouldn’t charge former Mayor Bill de Blasio, but pursued Trump. After refusing to charge BLM rioters or prostitutes, he made a point of dragging a woman featured in a viral video into court because she had called the police during a dispute with a black man.
But it’s also become normal at the federal level.
Hillary Clinton and her aides mishandled classified information on a massive scale. The indictment of President Trump contrasts sharply with the treatment of Hillary, not to mention Biden who left classified documents lying around his garbage. In Democrat-run cities, there are ‘no bail’ policies which allow criminals to be released soon after an arrest. The news is full of scenarios where violent criminals or even shoplifters have re-offended once released into the community.
Others have no such safety net. Ask anyone prosecuted for Jan 6 with the narrative that they were “insurrectionists.” Trump, his supporters, and all Conservatives are all susceptible to such “prosecutorial discretion.” Anyone who disagrees with leftist narratives are targets.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
All of this is also driven by the leftist media, whose gleeful coverage of such prosecutorial decisions reeks of bias. It’s not about the rule of law, it’s about which political view the person espouses. And like the show trials and prosecutions of the political enemies of Josef Stalin and Adolf Hitler, they have real consequences.
Watching the media gleefully pound on the prosecution of Trump yesterday was outrageous, and every major leftist news channel across the board did it. Not one mention of Biden’s classified documents dumped in his garage or at Universities of Penn and Delaware. No mention of the lack of prosecution for Hillary who had verified classified documents on an illegal server, destroyed her cell phones with a hammer, and used bleach bit to destroy 33,000 other emails that were under subpoena. It is all about “Get Trump.” The leftists even called the Trump and Conservative arguments “Whataboutism.” RINOs like Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney, Asa Hutchinson, etc., should be aware that the time will come that the Democrat cabal will even turn on them. Because that’s what evil does.
True consistent application of laws is the only way our Republic can survive. Otherwise, we are just another third world country led by a dictatorship hell-bent on destroying their opposition. Prosecutorial discretion has created a two-tiered justice system that is tearing the heart out of our nation.
