President Trump’s State of the Union address struck an optimistic tone, although it appeared that some of the Democrats had to be shamed into standing for parts of it. But it was an extraordinary speech, with a hope-laced thread throughout.

Recognition of Congressman Steve Scalise
Some trials over the past year touched this chamber very personally. With us tonight is one of the toughest people ever to serve in this House — a guy who took a bullet, almost died, and was back to work three and a half months later: the legend from Louisiana, Congressman Steve Scalise.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
We are incredibly grateful for the heroic efforts of the Capitol Police Officers, the Alexandria Police, and the doctors, nurses, and paramedics who saved his life, and the lives of many others in this room.
In the aftermath of that terrible shooting, we came together, not as Republicans or Democrats, but as representatives of the people. But it is not enough to come together only in times of tragedy. Tonight, I call upon all of us to set aside our differences, to seek out common ground, and to summon the unity we need to deliver for the people we were elected to serve.
Unity would be a great thing, especially if Democrats would do it. And Trump made no apologies for America. No groveling, no excuses, just painting that bright picture for the future.
A strong America
Over the last year, the world has seen what we always knew: that no people on Earth are so fearless, or daring, or determined as Americans. If there is a mountain, we climb it. If there is a frontier, we cross it. If there is a challenge, we tame it. If there is an opportunity, we seize it.
So let us begin tonight by recognizing that the state of our Union is strong because our people are strong.
And together, we are building a safe, strong, and proud America.
Even the Washington Post said that Americans were optimistic about the nation after his speech, although CNN bashed it, calling it the least favorable response in years, and the New York Times had to “fact check” it. This coming from the least “factual” news media.
“USA USA”
At one point, chants of “USA USA USA” broke out in the chamber. It was then that Democrat Luis Gutierrez stormed out of the Congress straight to the Hispanic station Univision to call Trump a racist. So much for “unity.”

The President talked about unemployment being down, about records for employment set in the Hispanic and Black communities. He spoke of the excitement of American businesses after the Tax cuts. True HOPE, not change back into the Dark Ages.
As President Trump went through the prepared text of his speech, he didn’t mention the infamous FISA memo, he kept to the positive. He talked about our Veterans, and removing Federal employees that do not perform properly. He talked about bringing down drug prices. He spoke of fixing America’s crumbling infrastructure, and streamlining the permit process.
America is a nation of builders. We built the Empire State Building in just 1 year — is it not a disgrace that it can now take 10 years just to get a permit approved for a simple road?
Immigration
He spoke of illegal immigration, of the illegals and MS-13 members who have viciously murdered so many. He reminded Congress that it is their duty to protect Americans FIRST. He promoted a “four pillar” immigration reform package that gives a path to American citizenship for the “Dreamers,” but noted that they must complete education and work requirements and be of good moral character in order to become citizens. His platform also contains the border wall, removal of the visa lottery, and ending chain migration.
Military
The President called on Congress to end the sequester and fully fund the Military because of the dangers we face abroad. He asked Secretary of Defense Mattis to review American detention policy, and signed an order to keep Guantanamo Bay open for enemy combatants. He talked of veterans and their valor. It was clear that he wants a military that is ready and able to defend the nation against our enemies.
The journey to freedom in America
He spoke of the will to be free, and called attention to Ji Seong-ho, who once lived in North Korea and travelled thousands of miles on crutches after a train ran over his limbs. It was a powerful testimony of a journey to freedom. A man who still carries his crutches as a reminder of his past, though now he has a prosthetic.
As the President ended his speech on a patriotic note, he received another standing ovation when he spoke of the US Capitol Building belonging to all Americans.
But above all else, they are Americans. And this Capitol, this city, and this Nation, belong to them.
Our task is to respect them, to listen to them, to serve them, to protect them, and to always be worthy of them.
Americans fill the world with art and music. They push the bounds of science and discovery. And they forever remind us of what we should never forget: The people dreamed this country. The people built this country. And it is the people who are making America great again.
As long as we are proud of who we are, and what we are fighting for, there is nothing we cannot achieve.
As long as we have confidence in our values, faith in our citizens, and trust in our God, we will not fail.
Our families will thrive.
Our people will prosper.
And our Nation will forever be safe and strong and proud and mighty and free.

It was an outstanding State of the Union speech, created to reach across the aisle to obstructionist Democrats who appear to still be grieving the loss of their former master. It is clear that the real America can be great again. It’s an uphill battle, but one that can be won. #MAGA
