President Trump fielded questions from reporters on May 9 regarding his latest actions against Iran – including the deployment of the USS Abraham Lincoln and B-52 Bombers to the region. One of his responses:
“Well, they were threatening. We have information that you don’t want to know about. … We have to have great security for this country and for a lot of other places. We have one of the most powerful ships in the world that is loaded up, and we don’t want to have to do anything.” President Trump to the Al-Monitor
As we previously reported, the USS Abraham Lincoln sailed to the region, and passed through the Suez Canal in Egypt on Thursday. The B-52 bombers from the 20th Bomb Squadron out of Barksdale Air Force Base landed at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar on Thursday night. Other bombers landed at an “undisclosed location in Southwest Asia,” according to Military.com.
President Trump offered talks with Iran, which were rejected by Iran’s leadership. (No surprise there).
“I look forward to the day where we can actually help Iran. We are not looking to hurt Iran. I want them to be strong and great and have a great economy. But they should call. If they do, we are open to talk to them. We have no secrets. And they can be very, very strong financially, they have great potential.” President Trump
Iran claims the US is “unreliable.”
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
The government run Tasnim News agency reported that the IRGC replied no chance of talks:
“No talks will be held with the Americans and the Americans will not dare take military action against us.” General Yadollah Javani of the Islamic Republic’s Revolutionary Guards
Iran stated it was backing off the restrictions on nuclear enrichment under the nuclear deal unless more nations would step up to shield them from US sanctions. Many of the EU nations have stayed in the nuclear deal, although several companies that used to do business with Iran have ceased doing so.
“We have not left the JCPOA so far, but we have put such a move on our agenda and that would happen step by step.” Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi
General Javani stated that “with one missile” they could destroy the USS Abraham Lincoln and the entire strike group. That’s something they’d perhaps better not try. The result would be devastating.
Iran is well known for sabre rattling, boasting of their military might and prowess. They are state sponsors of terrorists world-wide and their actions have created mass murder. As part of that “axis of evil,” they have been pushing the envelope for some time.
What is different now?
