The way the liberal left tells it, you would think that Americans were climbing over one another in order to harass their elected officials into banning so-called “assault” weapons.
This is thanks in no small part to the political timing of their fervor, which always seems to crescendo on the coattails of some horrid and unfathomable tragedy, when the mind is malleable with sorrow and facts have been replaced wholly with feelings.
But, as a new poll shows us, this is simply not the case.
New polling shows that support for an “assault weapons” ban in the United States has hit an all-time low despite calls from Democrats to implement a ban following a deadly mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.
In a Quinnipiac University poll, conducted last week and published on Tuesday, 50 percent of registered voters support a nationwide ban on semi-automatic long guns compared to 45% who oppose which represents the lowest level of support since February 2013 when Quinnipiac began asking that question.
And it hasn’t been all that long since support for a ban was at its all-time high, either.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
The highest level of support for the ban was 67% in February 2018, days after the Parkland school shooting that left 17 people dead.
The poll did demonstrate that Americans are turning in the direction of gun control to some extent, with 92% of those polled suggesting that they’d be amendable to enhanced background checks for firearm purchases, regardless of party affiliation.
