The Podcast King said exactly what most people think about Dylan Mulvaney… and what the public thinks about Bud Light.
In a larger conversation with rapper/actor Ice Cube about brands going “woke”, Joe Rogan blasted Bud Light for turning on their blue collar base in favor of some gender-confused influencer and his followers.
On Thursday’s episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan called transgender-identifying influencer Dylan Mulvaney an “attention whore” and “mentally ill” over the whole Bud Light can incident.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
“The only time [capital] respects peoples’ opinions is when people boycott sh*t and it works like this Bud Light thing. And now people are like, ‘Don’t do that again,’” Rogan said referring to the boycott of the brand after the Mulvaney Instagram video.
“Who controls Bud Light? That’s the question,” Ice Cube asked. “Why would they make a dumb decision like that? Are they trying to ruin Bud Light? And why would they ruin Bud Light… are they trying to take down some of our most iconic American brands?”
“I don’t think they were trying — I don’t think they thought that this was going to happen,” replied Rogan.
He then went on to say that he believes that it is the pressure to adopt ESG — environmental, social and governance — standards to improve the ESG score that is forcing companies to “dedicate time to the woke stuff.”
“Take a brand like Bud Light,” Rogan said. “It’s for blue-collar drinking people and they like to watch football and drink Bud Light and then all of a sudden you have this mentally ill person who’s just an attention whore. And you make a big deal about putting this person — ‘365 days of womanhood!’ — on a Bud Light can and they freak the f*ck out, and then Kid Rock shoots a bunch of ’em and it’s on.
“Once Kid Rock shoots your cans, you’ve got real problems,” Rogan said laughing.
And he’s right. The JRE episode comes hot-on-the-heels of Mulvaney posting an Instagram video painting himself as a victim and railing at Bud Light for not standing by him during the backlash.
Mulvaney said that he felt “a loneliness that I wouldn’t wish on anyone” and that he was upset that Anheuser-Bush didn’t support him as he was being slammed in the news.
After Mulvaney posted the video, however, Anheuser-Busch pushed back on those claims saying that the company is “committed to the programs and partnerships we have forged over decades with organizations across a number of communities, including those in the LGBTQ+ community.”
This isn’t the first time that Rogan has gone off about Dylan Mulvaney and Bud Light.
Last month, during a show with fellow comedian Theo Von, Rogan was weighing in on the boycott that had already cost the company tens of billions in market value.
“Can you imagine, you’re just gonna send a f*cking can to some confused person,” Rogan said. “You send that person a f*cking can with their face on, and your company loses $20 billion. That is wild sh*t, man.”
Later on in Thursday’s podcast, Rogan and Ice Cube discussed the situation with Target that faced similar backlash that cost them billions because of their over-the-top celebration of all things Pride including “tuck-friendly” and chest-binding swimwear for adults and Pride clothing for children including infants.
“I think that’s an ESG thing, and Target lost billions of dollars,” Rogan said.
“Because people are sick of this sh*t,” he added. “They’re sick of social things that are controversial, getting stuffed into your face and where you have to accept it, and people are like ‘I don’t wanna accept it. I’m just here for f—ing toilet paper.’”
Joe Rogan is telling it like it is — and that’s precisely why he’s the Podcast King.
