Officer Jimmy Inn – 2nd California Officer Killed in 24 hours.

Stockton Police Officer Jimmy Inn was shot and killed on Tuesday while responding to a domestic violence call. His death marked the 2nd California officer murdered in less than 24 hours. It was the 4th officer murdered in less than 24 hours on National Police week. Officer Inn leaves behind wife, Tela, who is also a police officer, two step children, and one 7 month old child.

The incident:

Officer Jimmy Inn received the report of a domestic violence incident at around 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday. Arriving at 10:07 a.m., he got out of his patrol vehicle and walked up to the residence. He knocked on the door, then moved to the side as the suspect yelled “Hey, police.” The suspect then opened fire at Officer Inn, shooting him multiple times. The suspect was identified as Lance Lowe, 30.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

The courage of a stranger

Police said another officer, Pancho Freer, who was in a vehicle nearby, arrived and spotted Lowe standing over Inn while holding a gun. Lowe shot at Freer before he returned gunfire. Lowe then briefly entered the home and returned moments later, holding his 8-year-old son.

The man refused to listen to the officer’s commands and was strangling his son when a bystander tackled Lowe, allowing for the officer to shoot him, police said.

“It’s a very brave thing to do to engage in a dangerous situation like that,” [Stockton Police Chief Eric] Jones said of the bystander.

This image from CBS Sacramento shows the suspect attempting to use his own son as a hostage. The son was medically cleared after the incident.

The suspect also died. Some media outlets stated that Officer Inn was shot while he was sitting in his patrol car, but that’s not the narrative that is revealed by the sequence of events from most other media. The patrol SUV windows were shot out, which is likely how that narrative surfaced.

Kaycie McClure lives across the street from the deadly shooting scene and ran to Officer Inn after he first went down.

“I don’t know who, but another man helped me flip him over and I tried my hardest, I was looking for holes, I was trying to get his vest off,” McClure said.

McClure said she was with him for just moments, as officers arrived.

“And I was just begging him to hang on, hang on, hang on, ‘they’re coming,’” McClure said.

Stockton Officer Jimmy Inn was on the department for 6 years.

“He was very patriotic. He loved America. He loved people; he wanted to help people. He was such a pivotal part of our life, our lives.

He left a 7-month-old baby who’s never going to know him, his wife, his stepchildren. It’s never, never going to be the same.”

Rest in peace, Jimmy Inn. End of watch 5-11-2021.
