Children under the age of three years old use social media? According to alleged health expert Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez they do — and they are placing themselves at risk by doing so. We all are, the freshman representative said Sunday during an interview on Yahoo News’s “Skullduggery” podcast.
Ocasio-Cortez revealed during the segment that she has cut back on her own use of social media, acknowledging:
I personally gave up Facebook, which was kind of a big deal because I started my campaign on Facebook. And Facebook was my primary digital organizing tool for a very long time. I gave up on it.
She confessed however to still suffering the occasional relapse:
Like every once in a while, you’ll see me hop on Twitter on the weekends, but for the most part, I take consumption of content, when it comes to consumption and reading, I take the weekends off. And so I’m not, like, scrolling through trying to read everything online that journalists are writing on weekends. I try to do that during the workweek.
So what are some of the health risks, according to Ocasio-Cortez, who is neither a doctor nor plays one on TV? “Increased isolation, depression, anxiety, addiction, escapism.”
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
No doubt she is parroting some popular health website, such as Healthline, though the part about three-year-olds being the most vulnerable to social media-related maladies is probably a misreading of something she saw somewhere.
Hey, does social media use caused learning disabilities? If so, that might explain much about the congresswoman’s own addiction.
