Obama speaks of birds chirping as terrorists attack Munich

Responding to rhetoric from GOP nominee Donald Trump and speakers at the Republican National Convention, President Obama mocked concerns that many Americans have about his “leadership” by referring to people waking up and hearing birds chirping. Meanwhile, Munich, Germany, came under yet another terrorist attack.
“I hope people, the next morning, walked outside and birds were chirping and the sun was out and this afternoon, people will be, you know, watching their kids play on sports teams and go to the swimming pool and folks are going to work and getting ready for the weekend,” he said in a joint press conference with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto. “And in particular, I think it is important, just to be absolutely clear here, that some of the fears that were expressed throughout the week just don’t jibe with the facts.”
Apparently, the good people in Munich didn’t heed his words as they were scrambling to deal with what authorities are calling a terrorist attack.
According to the UK Mirror:
Police have released a statement warning people to stay in their homes, off the road and away from the OEZ shopping centre.
Cops say it is currently unclear who is behind the ‘shootout.’
At least one person is reported to have been killed in the incident with ten injured.
Video from the scene of the attack is apparently being widely spread on IS-related Twitter accounts, although it is currently unclear whether the attack is terror-related.
There are reports that the gunman has fled into the city’s underground network, although this has not been confirmed.
Pictures are emerging from the scene showing people fleeing and what appears to be a body on the floor.
I’m sure there were birds chirping as this was going on…
As it turns out, my wife’s cousin, Brian Schoolcraft, and his wife, Danielle, happened to be in the area when it began. Fortunately, they’re okay, and he gave us a short narrative of what he experienced:
We still aren’t sure exactly happened or where, as we were enjoying the beer festival we heard what we thought were a lot of sirens, and didn’t think twice. It started to lightly rain and we’d had enough beer and decided to walk back to hotel and clean up before heading out to dinner. We noticed a helicopter flying overhead. As we got to the main road we needed to cross we saw a dozen heavily armed police heading the direction we just came from. As we got close to the road our hotel is on, people were running away and shouting to take cover. Needless to say, we heeded the advice and ducked into an alley way a resident quickly closed. We are at our hotel now and safe.
Even as I am writing this, Fox News is reporting that new violence is breaking out in the city.
And no doubt, the birds are still chirping…
This is an ongoing story, more will be provided as it becomes available.
