NY Times, Barack Obama blame guns, call for restrictions

obama-thanksgivingThe New York Times is using the First Amendment to declare war on the Second in a front-page editorial — its first in 95 years — to demand that some classes of firearms be banned and that people who own them to “give them up for the good of their fellow citizens.”

Likewise, in his weekly radio address Saturday morning, President Barack Obama said San Bernardino’s terrorist attack was “another tragic reminder that here in America it’s way too easy for dangerous people to get their hands on a gun.”

At the same time, the president continued in his reluctant to acknowledge that what happened in California Wednesday was not random, not spontaneous but the sinister act of people who did some planning.

“It is entirely possible that these two attackers were radicalized to commit this act of terror,” the president said, and one could almost hear his teeth grinding as he used the “T-word.”

Will Donald Trump win the 2024 election?

Incredibly, the Times editorial considers talk about terrorism to be a distraction from the gun control crusade it has long championed.

There seems little doubt among gun right activists that the anti-gun newspaper and the anti-gun president are wearing ideological blinders. They have an agenda, and it does not appear to be about national security or even public safety. It’s about reducing the Second Amendment right to the status of a heavily-regulated privilege, which will leave terrorists and criminals armed, and their intended victims defenseless.

Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz told reporters yesterday in Iowa, “You don’t stop bad guys by taking way our guns, you stop bad guys by using our guns.”

With 13 months remaining in his presidency (Jan. 20, 2017, remember?), Obama is making a full-court press to ratchet down on gun rights, and the New York Times has his back.

On the other hand, Second Amendment advocates are saying this is hardly the time to disarm, because the threat of terrorism is real and it has arrived on these shores.
