New York’s unelected Gov Hochul interrupted a Holocaust Remembrance message to bash Florida Gov Ron DeSantis. Her partisanshp has been on display since she openly called on Republicans to get out of New York…all 5.4 million of them. But in the middle of telling people to “remember and never forget” the murders of at least 6 million Jews during WWII, she popped out with “Florida is overrated…I shouldn’t say this, but look at the Governor…”. Inappropriate, pathetic that a Governor of any state, let alone New York, would take time out of a remembrance to slam the Governor of another state. Especially since New Yorkers have been fleeing her state since the pandemic because of its authoritarian ways. And there will be some remembering above and beyond the Holocaust.
Hochul’s predecessor, Andrew Cuomo also told Republicans to leave the state.The messaging of division is clear, ‘we want to do our thing without you people trying to mess it up.’ And that’s bad enough, but Hochul isn’t even an elected Governor…she inherited the job when the former Governor had a problem with inappropriately touching women.
Lots of folks were exceedingly unhappy with the divisive statements, and one in particular, Dov Hikind, a Jewish former NY State Assemblyman, called her statement “pathetic” and expressed that she must be defeated. When anti-semitism is so high in New York, her statement particularly during a Holocaust Remembrance event, likely damaged her voting base.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
Gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin remarked: “New York has a Governor who believes that if you disagree with her you are no longer a New Yorker and need to leave the state. Just think about how absolutely nuts that is. Kathy Hochul‘s Gotta Go!”
