Nielsen Gone,Secret Service Director Gone too…Trump Takes DHS in a “Tougher” Direction
One thing we all know about President Trump at this juncture is that he does not tolerate “mediocre.” Either get things done, or get out. Such was the situation over the weekend, when former DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen was asked forced to resign. This morning we learn that the Director of the Secret Service, Randolph Alles, is also leaving as of May 1.
“Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen will be leaving her position, and I would like to thank her for her service…. I am pleased to announce that Kevin McAleenan, the current U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner, will become Acting Secretary for @DHSgov. I have confidence that Kevin will do a great job!” President Trump
The announcement came on the heels of Trump abruptly yanking the nomination of Border Patrol veteran Ron Vitiello to head up ICE. He stated he was “going in a tougher direction.” Vitiello will remain as acting director of ICE for the time being.
Is McAleenan a “tougher direction” for the DHS? And what about the new Director of the Secret Service?
Nielsen had been making the President unhappy for some time. Her background in cybersecurity reportedly did not make her a “good fit” for DHS Secretary, according to various articles. Her successor is a former Obama appointee, however, so it remains to be seen whether he will step up to the plate and do what this President asks or not.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
What I’ll say about Kevin is he’s an extremely intelligent guy. I used to joke around he’s lost more IQ points than I’ll ever have. And what he brings that’s unique is over a decade of specific border security experience. And he’s very skilled at kind of managing D.C. politics on both sides of the aisle. So it’s a good fit.
“He served as the deputy commissioner of [Customs and Border Protection] before he became commissioner. So he was there on the ground floor and I was actually with him in a different capacity in 2014 when this influx and this crisis began of unaccompanied minor and family units. So he has been there on the ground floor and has seen this and been there every day working hard since 2014 through this crisis, from the start to where we are at now. So I think he brings that unique perspective.” Former Border Patrol Chief Mark Morgan in the Daily Caller
Managing and being intelligent may be great gifts, but stopping the flow of illegals into the United States is a daunting task.
DHS Shuffle was “imminent”
The now former Secret Service director, Randolph Alles, was told to find an “exit plan” 10 days ago, according to Fox. Trump named his successor as James M. Murray, a career Secret Service Agent, who will take the reigns in May. Alles served over 40 years for the country. The shakeup has been planned for a while.
Sarah Sanders statement: “President Trump has selected James M. Murray, a career member of the USSS, to take over as director beginning in May.”

The “tougher” candidates are now at the helm of the Department of Homeland Security. Exactly what this will change, we aren’t sure. The only thing we know is that if you fail to do what Trump wants you to do, you’re out. And in a President, that may cause a little shaking, surprise, and trepidation, but in the long run it’s a good thing.
