Crime jumped upward in far-left Mayor Bill de Blasio’s New York City last month, with a 166 percent increase in the number of shooting incidents, and a 47 percent increase in the number of homicides compared to August of last year.

According to WNBC, through Aug. 31 there has been an 87 percent “spike in citywide shooting incidents” so far this year. There were 1,014 shootings during the first eight months of this year, compared to 541 for the same time period in 2019.

The city logged 53 murders last month, opposed to 39 slayings in August 2019, and the number of robberies also shot upward to 1,276. Burglaries increased to 1,310, the report detailed.

Rape was down, the NBC home station reported, and hate crimes declined by 37 percent.
De Blasio is making news as one of four mayors who are facing off with President Donald Trump over threats about federal funds going to places where anarchy seems to reign. In addition to New York there are continuing troubles in Seattle, Portland and Washington, D.C. The mayors sent a joint statement to the president, promising to sue if their federal funds are threatened for allowing sometimes violent protests to occur in their municipalities.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan issued a statement that was quoted by KOMO News, the local ABC affiliate, in which she asserted the president has not been a leader.

“For four years, he has raged at cities and threatened them,” she said. “Consistently Courts have had to reign him in, to tell him he did not have the powers of a despot and is not above the law. Now his bluster continues by threatening to deny federal funding (including COVID-19 funding) for millions of Americans.”

In Portland, far left Mayor Ted Wheeler has essentially been forced out of his condo by a mob that tried to set fire to the place.

Fox News is reporting that “at least 24 people involved in protests and riots in Portland since late May have been arrested more than once.” This appears to be the result of what the story says are “lenient” policies by the Multnomah County District Attorney’s office.
