New BLM Tactic: Hundreds of Cockroaches Released into NY Courtroom

A new BLM tactic? Hundreds of cockroaches were smuggled into a courtoom in plastic containers and released, causing the courthouse to be shut down and fumigated. Someone among the approximately two dozen BLM demonstrators inside the courtoom allegedly released the bugs. One BLM (Black Lives Matter) protester, Clyanna Lightbourn, was arrested after attempting to video tape the court proceedings without permission of the judge. She was a former employee of the NY Senate, but was fired on June 7 after the debacle in the court room.

The purveyors of the new BLM tactic were protesting for a new anti-eviction law. Four defendants were being arraigned for their actions in a state rent issues case when the cockroaches were released. Lightbourn was charged with tampering with physical evidence, a felony, as well as criminal contempt, obstruction of governmental administration, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. She was not specifically identified as the person who released the bugs. She is the founder of that chapter of BLM and was formerly employed by the state Senate Democratic Conference Services Office as an external relations upstate coordinator.

A buggy situation

As more than two dozen supporters of the defendants objected in the courtroom, one person tried to film the proceeding. As others continued to object, another individual dropped lettuce onto the floor that was covered with cockroaches, a person with knowledge of the situation said…

Lucian Chalfen, spokesman for the state Office of Court Administration, provided a photo of large cockroaches on the floor of the courtroom, along with pieces of lettuce and other dark material that appeared to be dirt or insect bedding.

“What transpired is not advocacy or activism, it is criminal behavior with the intent to disrupt a proceeding and cause damage,” said  Chalfen in a statement. Prosecution would include seeking restitution for the cleanup, he said. “Taxpayers shouldn’t foot the bill for these actions.”…

A statement from the Albany County District Attorney’s office said, “While the incident remains under investigation, the Office of the District Attorney would like to emphasize that while the right to protest is protected, we oppose the disruption of court proceedings, and the apparent display of disrespect shown to the court.”

Times-Union

BLM protests have always seemed buggy, but this newest BLM tactic sinks to new lows.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
