New Black Panthers to Carry Arms at RNC Protests

The New Black Panthers say they will be armed during protests at the Republican National Convention, which begins on July 18. This comes nearly 4 months after the Secret Service refused to allow open carry for attendees at the event for any reason whatsoever.

Self-defense deleted for conference attendees

Back on March 28,  Breitbart reported that a petition to the Secret Service to allow personal firearms at the RNC convention was firmly denied…with no exceptions period.

On  Tuesday, July 12, Reuters reported that the head of the New Black Panthers declared they were planning to bring firearms to the protests “if legal.”

Restrictions removed

The city of Cleveland had originally set up a protest area across the street from the RNC venue that had many restrictions. A Federal judge struck down those restrictions on June 23 after a lawsuit by the ACLU challenged the rules as unconstitutional.

Politico reported,

Those restrictions would ban certain items, including large backpacks, tape and string, and limit where within the 3.5 square mile zone demonstrators can speak and hold a parade.

According to a Cleveland.com report, U.S. District Judge James Gwin also took issue with the “unduly large” size of the event zone itself, as well as with the times at which parades could be held and the limitations placed on the use of city parks by protesters.

Oh happy day. The protest zone would have jammed both anti-Trump and pro-Trump protesters in the same space. The city said they would try to work out a compromise. But the clock is ticking… the convention opens next week.

Weapons and hotheads don’t mix

Ohio is a legal open carry state. People don’t need a license to open carry a firearm. There are certain restrictions on locations, like Federal or other government buildings.

According to Reuters,

The chairman of the New Black Panther Party, a “black power” movement, said his group will carry arms for self-defense during protests at the Republican convention next week if allowed under Ohio law.

“If it is an open state to carry, we will exercise our second amendment rights because there are other groups threatening to be there that are threatening to do harm to us,” Hashim Nzinga, chairman of the New Black Panther Party, told Reuters in an interview.

“If that state allows us to bear arms, the Panthers and the others who can legally bear arms will bear arms.”

Nzinga condemned the killing of five police officers in Dallas last week as a “massacre” and said his group played no role in the attack.

Officials in Ohio have said it will be legal for protesters to carry weapons at demonstrations outside the convention under the state’s “open carry” laws. Several other groups, including some supporters of  presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, have said they will carry weapons in protests as well, leading to concerns about rival groups being armed in close proximity.

Use restraint!

Guess we’ll see how this plays out. No firearms are allowed inside the RNC venue, but many of the protesters on both sides will be armed.

We sincerely hope that they will all use restraint in a potentially heated situation. The NBP party has openly called for the killing of police, and have stated they want to arm every black man.
