It was only a generation or two ago that the world witnessed an incredible, and tense, race to the stars, as countries around the world looked to harness the military advancements of the second World War in order to boldly go where no man has gone before.
That tumultuous yet inspiring period in world history culminated with the United States finally landing a pair of intrepid astronauts on the lunar surface, taking one small step for man, which was heralded as a giant leap for mankind.
But now, some 50 years later, a new lunar lurch is on, and it could see the moon become the property of the communists.
China National Space Administration, the state owned space corporation, may be planning a “takeover” of the Moon as part of its military space program, NASA’s administrator Bill Nelson has told newspaper Bild. During the interview Nelson affirmed that the United States was involved in the space race with Beijing.
US officials are not taking the possibility lightly.

In 2035, he iterated, China will complete construction of its own Moon station, and will launch several moon programmes. The 79-year-old NASA administrator acknowledged that the American space administration has, in fact, been “very concerned” about China’s landing on the Moon and its agenda of hijacking the Moon.
And while “hijacking the Moon” sounds an awful lot like the plot of a Nicolas Cage movie, the idea could have far-reaching ramifications for future space travel.
