N.Y. Governor: Unvaccinated ‘Aren’t Listening To God’

"Be my apostles," Gov. Hochul told the congregation of a Brooklyn megachurch

One day before the enacting of New York state’s mandate that all health-care workers be vaccinated, Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul told the congregation of a Brooklyn megachurch that the unvaccinated “aren’t listening to God.”

“Yes, I know you’re vaccinated. You’re the smart ones,” she said Sunday at the Christian Cultural Center church in Brooklyn.

“But you know, there’s people out there who aren’t listening to God and what God wants. You know this. You know who they are,” Hochul continued.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

“I need you to be my apostles. I need you to go out and talk about it and say, We owe this to each other. We love each other. Jesus taught us to love one another. And how do you show that love, but to care about each other enough to say, ‘Please get vaccinated because I love you. I want you to live.’”

See video of Hochul’s remarks Sunday:

On Saturday, Hochul said all New York state workers who are fired for refusing to get vaccinated are not eligible for unemployment insurance.

On Monday, faced with serious staff shortages, Hochul said in a statement that a state emergency declaration and calling in health care workers from the National Guard are options.

“I am monitoring the staffing situation closely and we have a plan to increase our health care workforce and help alleviate the burdens on our hospitals and other health care facilities,” Hochul said. “I commend all of the health care workers who have stepped up to get themselves vaccinated, and I urge all remaining health care workers who are unvaccinated to do so now so they can continue providing care.”

Hochul’s office said that as of Sept. 22, 84% of all hospital employees in New York and 81% of adult-care facilities staff were fully vaccinated, CBS News reported.

The Monday deadline for all health-care workers to receive at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine was announced in August by Hochul’s predecessor, Andrew Cuomo.

Numerous lawsuits have been filed against the mandate, including by the Civil Service Employees Association, members of the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association and a group of medical workers.

Hochul made it clear last Wednesday “we will be replacing people” the estimated 70,000 health-care workers who refuse to be vaccinated, reported WRGB-TV in Albany.

“People who will not get vaccinated are the only reason that this country and these communities and our cities have not been able to be fully engaged in a state of normalcy,” she said.
