We’re all about to see if our Republican House Speaker is as tough as we hope. McCarthy plans to go to Taipei – and last time Pelosi wanted to go, Biden wasn’t behind the move, so someone leaked trip information to the media. Beijing was unhappy. Fortunately, she eventually went anyway. The same thing has occurred now that McCarthy reportedly plans to visit the island nation, which was a promise he made while running for House Speaker. And Beijing isn’t happy, especially after their spy balloon was shot down. Gordon Chang in the Daily Caller.

“We hope U.S. lawmakers will abide by the one-China principle and the Three China-U.S. Joint Communiques and refrain from doing things detrimental to China-U.S. relations and peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning
The McCarthy plans to visit Taipei — will they be thwarted by thinly veiled threats or pressure on Biden? The plans are only in the early stages. They are unlikely to intimidate McCarthy himself, but you can guarantee they will put pressure on ‘China Joe’ to try and stop him. If McCarthy has any guts, he’ll tell them to pound sand and go anyway. There are reports that China could put in place a blockade to stop him from landing at the airport on Taiwan. In and of itself, that could provoke a serious response from the US. They threatened that for Pelosi, but it did not come to fruition.

The White House was seen as urging Pelosi to postpone, minimize, or cancel her visit. Newly minted members of the Republican House of Representatives have been urged to visit Taipei by former members who previously visited the country.
“I think every member of Congress should visit Taiwan.” Sen Todd Young (R-IN)
Such an idea is an excellent one. Doing so enrages China because of the “One China Policy,” which was a boondoggle from the beginning. But as Chinese dictator Xi continues to demand “reunification” of Taiwan and issue all manner of threats, more and more members of Congress are seeing his true colors. As for Senator Young’s previous trip to the island, China issued threats in an attempt to force him to cancel the trip.
China was livid about the senator’s visit. Days before Young’s trip, one of his top staffers received a threatening email from the Chinese Embassy, which was reviewed by NatSec Daily.
In the message, the embassy official urged the senator to discreetly cancel the visit to Taiwan and warned of increased instability in the region if he followed through. It would further damage relations between the U.S. and China and “send wrong signals” to those who support Taiwan’s independence, the official wrote. The Chinese Communist Party views Taiwan as its own territory under its “One China” policy.
Several members of Congress received similar messages from Chinese officials in recent months, due to their interest in visiting the island nation or supporting it via legislation, as Semafor reported in October. Politico
The question remains – will the McCarthy plans to visit Taiwan be thwarted or will he push back and go anyway? Time will tell, but we are pretty sure he’ll just go anyway.
