On Wednesday, John McCain, the Arizona Senator who campaigns as a Republican but otherwise acts like a liberal Democrat, trashed Trump CIA nominee Gina Haspel over her testimony regarding torture.
“Today, Gina Haspel testified before the Senate and to the country about her qualifications to lead the CIA. This occasion provided an opportunity to provide details about her experience in the CIA, explain her involvement in the so-called enhanced interrogation program during the Bush Administration, and account for the mistakes the country made in torturing detainees held in U.S. custody after the September 11th attacks. Unfortunately, the testimony the American people heard from Ms. Haspel today failed to address these concerns,” McCain said in a statement on his official Senate website.
“Like many Americans, I understand the urgency that drove the decision to resort to so-called enhanced interrogation methods after our country was attacked. I know that those who used enhanced interrogation methods and those who approved them wanted to protect Americans from harm. I appreciate their dilemma and the strain of their duty. But as I have argued many times, the methods we employ to keep our nation safe must be as right and just as the values we aspire to live up to and promote in the world.
Is Biden's Vaccine Mandate Unconstitutional?
“I believe Gina Haspel is a patriot who loves our country and has devoted her professional life to its service and defense. However, Ms. Haspel’s role in overseeing the use of torture by Americans is disturbing. Her refusal to acknowledge torture’s immorality is disqualifying. I believe the Senate should exercise its duty of advice and consent and reject this nomination,” he added.

But, Larry O’Connor and others said, McCain voted for John Brennan — who has the EXACT same record on the issue as Haspel.
But Senator, with all respect, you voted FOR John Brennan who had the same record on rendition and enhanced interrogation as Ms. Haspel. Respectfully, why the double standard? https://t.co/AQM43yHWq4

Rush Limbaugh also noted:
…Let me ask you a question. A little reminder. Who was it that voted for John Brennan, who was Obama’s CIA director — and is probably, I think, the head honcho leading the opposition to Trump here. I think he’s leading the deep state operation to get rid of Trump. (interruption) Wait just a second. Let me go through the whole thing here. Don’t answer it yet. Who voted “yes” for John Brennan at his CIA confirmation to be the director?
And it has to be noted here that John Brennan was Gina Haspel’s higher up, had the same record on the issues of torture that she has. He was there. He was all in favor of enhanced interrogation. Who was the senator who voted then for Obama’s appointment to be director of the CIA, John Brennan? Who is the one senator now getting all sanctimonious about torture and so forth, suggesting he cannot recommend voting for Gina Haspel?
It’s none other than John McCain. John McCain voted for Obama’s nominee to head the CIA, who’s got the same profile as Gina Haspel. Gina Haspel was a subordinate to Brennan but McCain now says that he can’t in good conscience support her because… I mean, he’s all in favor of a woman being nominated. He’s all in favor of the great, groundbreaking things. But then her being around at the time of waterboarding and so forth?
So what’s the difference between the two?
Simple. Brennan was picked by former President Barack Obama — a Democrat. Haspel is Trump’s pick. It seems that McCain — once again — is acting out of spite and hatred of Trump.
McCain got roasted by quite a few people on social media:
What's immoral is a Senator who would pass a fake "dossier" to the FBI trying to bring down a President that was duly elected by the American people. That is disqualifying Senator. Have the decency to resign. #TrumpDoesntWantToAttendYourFuneral #HeOnlyHonorsPatriots

What a hypocrite you are! Don’t you know YOUR friend Brennan was over Haspel then & gave those orders?

But that doesn’t matter. All that matters is hurting Trump. Even if it means siding with liberal Democrats and America’s enemies, including terrorists.
