Marco Rubio: Obama doesn’t have the guts to admit he’s anti-Second Amendment

Rubio-ObamaSen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) tore into Barack Obama while appearing on The O’Reilly Factor Wednesday, saying that the president doesn’t “have the guts” to tell America he doesn’t believe in the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.

“I actually believe the president doesn’t have the guts to admit he doesn’t believe in the Second Amendment although he states that he is,” Rubio said.

“The Second Amendment is in the Constitution. I didn’t write the Constitution, neither did you, neither did he. If he doesn’t want the Second Amendment to be in the Constitution or if he wants to reform the Second Amendment then have the guts to admit that,” he added.

Obama has claimed that he supports the right of people to own guns for hunting, but like everything else, his actions do not match his rhetoric.

During his first term, for example, he told Sarah Brady that gun control “was very much on his agenda.”

“’I just want you to know that we are working on it,’ Brady recalled the president telling them. ‘We have to go through a few processes, but under the radar,’” the Washington Post reported in 2011.

The Post added:

During his campaign, Obama supported reintroducing the lapsed assault weapon ban, promised to eliminate an amendment requiring the FBI to destroy records of gun buyers’ background checks and advocated closing the gun-show loophole. Since taking office, the president has done none of that, and before the midterm elections, he shelved a proposal requiring gun dealers to report bulk sales of high-powered semiautomatic rifles. In his State of the Union address, just weeks after the Giffords shooting in January, Obama made no mention of guns.

On Wednesday, Obama signed 23 executive orders dealing with gun control while using children as props, and essentially declared war on those who support the right to keep and bear arms.

“The only way we will be able to change is if their audience, their constituents, their membership says, this time must be different, that this time we must do something to protect our communities and our kids,” he said, speaking of “pundits and politicians and special interest lobbyists” like the NRA. “I will put everything I’ve got into this, and so will Joe. But I tell you, the only way we can change is if the American people demand it,” Obama said.

Despite his chest-thumping rhetoric, Obama proved with his actions that he does not believe in the Second Amendment, even though he swore an oath to preserve and defend the Constitution.
