Mac’s Public House, Staten Island: “We Will Not Bow!”

Mac’s Public House on Staten Island in New York has made a statement to Governor Andrew Cuomo and NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio (alias “de bozo”) by placing an “Autonomous Zone” sign around their business. New restrictions over the virus went into effect on Wednesday. The bar’s owners have refused to close in spite of the egregious fines and restrictions of New York.

“!ATTENTION! As of November 20,2020, we hereby declare this establishment an !!!AUTONOMOUS ZONE!!! We refuse to abide by any rules and regulations put forth by the Mayor of NYC and Governor of NY State.” Mac’s Public House

The state deemed Staten Island in the ‘Orange zone’ after spikes in the coronavirus, and instituted the rule that indoor dining at bars and restaurants is strictly forbidden. But Mac’s Public House has refused to close, and openly defied the restrictions. Consequently, the state Liquor Authority voted to rescind their liquor license, issued a shutdown order, and has imposed thousands of dollars in fines.

The first $15,000 fine was rescinded, but now the Sheriff’s office is fining them $1000 per day for staying open.

The New York Post reported,

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

“At this point, we’re OK with it, because we’re not paying it,” co-owner Danny Presti said. “[The Sheriff’s Department] is issuing us $1,000 fines, so they keep coming back. We’re still here. We’re not letting them in.”

Co-owner Keith McAlarney backed up his partner’s declaration of COVID independence.

“We’re not backing down. You think you scared me by . . . saying I don’t have a license now to serve liquor now? Well guess what? That liquor license is on the wall. If that liquor license is gonna come off the wall, it’s gonna be done by Cuomo. You wanna come down here and pull that license off the wall?” McAlarney says in a YouTube video posted Friday, the same day the bar’s liquor license was yanked.

“De Bozo,” he continued, presumably referring to Mayor de Blasio, “you want to come down here and pull the license off the wall?…Feel free to end up comin’ down, and we’ll end up having a conversation before you even think about stepping foot on my property. I will not back down.”

The pub has switched to giving away their drinks and food free, and just asking for a donation. One patron gave them $100 for a drink of water.

“I totally support what he is doing. I don’t support the tyrannical nonsense they have in place. I gave them $100 for this water. They didn’t charge me. I gave it to support them.” Keith Atherholt

The brutal fact is that neither the state itself nor the health departments of the states have the right to “demand that families go hungry.”  As flagrant violations of the Constitution grow across the nation over a virus with 99% survival rate, we can rest assured that it will continue under a Biden administration should President Trump fail in his challenges. As Trump fights the good fight against the Democrat Socialist Goliath, Mac’s Public House fights against the State and City of New York. Civil disobedience MUST occur throughout the nation – and any police officer that goes along with such draconian “requirements ” is in violation of their oath.

Even after the Supreme Court rapped Cuomo’s knuckles last week over his COVID restrictions, he shrugged it off as “irrelevant.” When will the Democrats be held accountable for violating the law?

If this defiance follows other similar actions of civil disobedience, the progression will go from fines, to arrests, to the city changing locks, to having to break into their own business, unless the Sheriff’s office wakes up and refuses to enforce this edict. As one patron of the Staten Island business remarked in the following video:

“What is the difference between sitting outside in a tent with no ventilation, and sitting inside with central air, central heat, with ac and air circulating? It doesn’t make sense, it’s all horseshit.” Mac’s Public House patron

Truth, that. It’s never been about safety. It’s about control.
