As Biden tried to find a deceased legislator at an event this week, Kamala Harris made a gaffe that gives us chills: while on an Asian “diplomatic tour” at the DMZ, she confused Communist North Korea with the South. “So the United States shares a very important relationship, which is an alliance with the Republic of North Korea, and it an alliance that is strong and enduring.” She probably meant the Republic of Korea, the formal name of South Korea. But in the world of international relations, words matter. Added to her previous word salads and embarassing actions, as well as those of her Boss, they are proof that we are led by buffoons.
North Korea launched a third ballistic missile into the sea as a protest ahead of Harris’ visit. The DPRK probably laughed hysterically over her statement but they fired another missile into the sea after she left on Thursday.
The DMZ, or Demilitarized Zone is 160 miles long, and about 2.5 miles wide. It separates North and South Korea as a compromise from the Korean War. Harris’trip was the last leg of her 4 day Asian Tour which was set so she could attend the funeral for Japan’s assassinated Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. She met with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, who wants to increase interaction with Washington. But there are other problems looming that won’t be as easily addressed as her blathering: Biden’s ban on electric cars built by foreign carmakers.
Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?
South Koreans have decried a new law signed by US president Joe Biden that prevents electric cars built outside of North America from being eligible for US government subsidies, undermining the competitiveness of carmakers like Seoul-based Hyundai.
During their meeting, Harris told Yoon that Washington will try to address South Korean concerns as the law is implemented, Yoon’s office said.
Scott Snyder, an analyst at the Council on Foreign Relations, said the dispute over electric vehicles has swiftly become a firestorm that US officials cannot ignore, although there may not be a simple solution.
‘It’s taking on a level of urgency that’s making it into a political problem that requires management,’ Snyder said. ‘I don’t know that it’s going to be easy for the Biden administration to do that.’ Daily Mail
