Julian Assange Is Now A Free Man… Here’s The 411 (Video)

Just yesterday, Julian Assange boarded a plane for Australia, with no fear of being carried away to an American prison.

He negotiated a deal with the DOJ, getting credit for time served while fighting extradition for all these years.

Here’s what the @Wikileaks account had to say about it:

JULIAN ASSANGE IS FREE

Julian Assange is free. He left Belmarsh maximum security prison on the morning of 24 June, after having spent 1901 days there. He was granted bail by the High Court in London and was released at Stansted airport during the afternoon, where he boarded a plane and departed the UK.

This is the result of a global campaign that spanned grass-roots organisers, press freedom campaigners, legislators and leaders from across the political spectrum, all the way to the United Nations. This created the space for a long period of negotiations with the US Department of Justice, leading to a deal that has not yet been formally finalised. We will provide more information as soon as possible.

After more than five years in a 2×3 metre cell, isolated 23 hours a day, he will soon reunite with his wife Stella Assange, and their children, who have only known their father from behind bars.

WikiLeaks published groundbreaking stories of government corruption and human rights abuses, holding the powerful accountable for their actions. As editor-in-chief, Julian paid severely for these principles, and for the people’s right to know.

As he returns to Australia, we thank all who stood by us, fought for us, and remained utterly committed in the fight for his freedom.

Julian’s freedom is our freedom.

Mike Pence, not surprisingly, is among the voices denouncing this as a miscarriage of justice.

Even though the DOJ negotiated a plea deal crediting his time he already served for years in a maximum security prison… and as someone who was holed up for years beyond that having sought asylum in an embassy.

He got dragged for that one… by a LOT of people.

On Twitter, it’s called getting ‘ratioed’… when someone replying to the tweet gets more support (likes) than the original post itself.

He got ratioed, and there’s an open invite to join the fun:

If Pence is so worried about miscarriages of justice, maybe he could look in on some of the J6 prisoners who are STILL awaiting trial, despite having been held in prison for years, including punitive treatment — like solitary confinement — to which no unconvicted citizen should be subject.

But why would he start caring about abuses committed by the American Establishment. He’s one of it’s biggest supporters. (Even when it goes rogue.)

Is Mike nervous about what ELSE Julian might be ready to expose now that he’s once again a free man? Julian has a lot to say, for example, about the real rationale behind ‘forever wars’ that nobody seems willing to bring to an actual conclusion.
