JP Morgan Chase Subsidiary WePay Torches Defense of Liberty PAC Event Claiming Racism, Terrorism, Violence

Missouri – JP Morgan Chase uses a subsidiary for payment processing called WePay that worked with the Defense of Liberty PAC previously on several events. That won’t happen again, as the company forced them to cancel a December event with Donald Trump Jr. Why? Because WePay claimed the event promoted racism, terrorism, violence, etc. Then they tried to backtrack and claimed the statement was a “mistake.” Definitely… now Defense of Liberty will not use them again.

Paul Curtman is a US Marine Veteran who has hosted Defense of Liberty dinner events for ten years and founded the Defense of Liberty PAC in 2017 witih Missouri State Senator Bill Eigel. Curtman served in Operation Enduring Freedom as a squad leader and later in the Missouri legislature for 8 years. They planned a December dinner event that was expected to bring at least 3,000 attendees because the keynote speaker was slated to be Donald Trump Jr. The tickets were price between $75 and $250 with tickets to a prevent with Don Jr for $500. Two weeks ago all of a sudden, WePay asked for documentation about the dinner event. Then…they cancelled the relationship.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

“It seems you’re using WePay Payments for one or more of the activities prohibited by our terms of service. More specifically: Per our terms of service, we are unable to process for hate, violence, racial intolerance, terrorism, the financial exploitation of a crime, or items or activities that encourage, promote, facilitate, or instruct others regarding the same.”

WePay

Huh? The WePay company said they would be refunding the $30,000 it had received so far and emphatically stated they would do no business with the Defense of Liberty PAC again. The accusations and actions by WePay were enough to lose over two weeks worth of ticket sales, and had a “direct impact” on the vendors that were lined up to participate in the event.

Numerous Missouri officials were angry at the situation, including Missouri State Treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick and Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt. Both Missouri officials sent letters to JP Morgan chase CEO Jamie Dimon.

Consequently, the only reasonable conclusion is the largest bank in the United States, JP Morgan Chase, has made it its policy to discriminate against its customers based on their political ideology. By doing so your institution is discriminating against ideology that was supported by half of the country and 60% of voting Missourians in the last election…

While as a private business you are free to choose who you want to do business with, it will be the policy of the Missouri State Treasurer’s Office that the State of Missouri will not do business with JP Morgan Chase, or any other financial institution that discriminates against customers based on mainstream political ideology so long as that discrimination continues.

WePay then suddenly backtracked. Oh gee that was a “mistake.”

“After further review, we determined that this organization didn’t violate the terms of service, and we are reaching out to the client to discuss reinstating the account. To be clear, we have never and would never close an account due to a client’s political affiliation.”

Sure. Too little too late. Missouri AG Eric Schmitt also sent a letter to JP Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon:

Missouri will not tolerate a powerful bank dicriminating against political views with which it disagrees…

If JPMorgan Chase’s statement last night is true that it has ‘never and would never close an account due to a client’s political affiliation,’ then what was the reason for the cancellation? In addition, what steps has JPMorgan Chase taken to remedy this mistake and ensure that it will not discriminate against conservative events in the future.

Missouri AG Eric Schmitt

So the cancel culture backfired on WePay – JP Morgan Chase. But they have lost a large account, and who knows what further fallout will occur against them. The Defense of Liberty PAC will postpone the dinner and hold it in a couple of months. It’s sad that it takes far reaching publicity to give the cancel culture a bloody nose.
