“No person that is supposedly unbiased could look at all the available information in this investigation and not see political bias at the very least – that’s simply not possible. One doesn’t need to be a professional investigator to see bias and wrongdoing given the facts presented.” (True Conservative Pundit)
“The Justice Department’s inspector general on Monday released the long-awaited internal review concerning the origins of the Russia investigation, revealing that while the probe’s launch complied with DOJ and FBI policies, there are ‘significant concerns with how certain aspects of the investigation were conducted and supervised.’
Specifically, the report concluded that investigators found no intentional misconduct or political bias surrounding efforts to seek a highly controversial Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant to monitor former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page in the early months of the Russia investigation — but faulted the FBI over numerous ‘omissions’ and ‘inaccuracies’ in the application process.”
This is yet another glaring fail via the Office of the Inspector General and its leader, Michael Horowitz. While on the one hand Mr. Horowitz found fault with some technical aspects of the FBI’s FISA applications concerning Carter Page, interestingly enough, Horowitz’s team found no evidence of “intentional misconduct or political bias,” on the part of any FBI official.
This writer fails to see how the DOJ “watchdog” could possibly come to this conclusion – although this is really no surprise whatsoever. One would need to be blind in one eye, and unable to see out of the other to arrive at this conclusion.
If there truly was no misconduct or political bias involved during this so-called investigation of Trump, then what does one call the obviously politically slanted texts between former FBI head of counterintelligence Peter Strzok and his former lover Lisa Page, a former FBI lawyer? Page and Strzok were, I would like to remind everyone – involved at the highest levels of the Trump/Russia investigation.
Earlier, Horowitz had this to say concerning those texts:
“Horowitz, the DOJ inspector general, noted in an initial report last year that Strzok and Page’s anti-Trump texts were ‘not only indicative of a biased state of mind but, even more seriously, implies a willingness to take official action to impact the presidential candidate’s electoral prospects (emphasis mine).’” (Source)
So my question is this; if the Page/Strzok texts affected the Trump campaign according to Mr. Horowitz, then how did he later find that these self-same texts do not constitute political bias, or misconduct? You cannot have it both ways. Either Page and Strzok are guilty of misconduct at the very least, or they are not (and they are without a doubt guilty of misconduct and wrongdoing – remember the “insurance policy”?)
This report is another whitewashing of the facts. While the report does mention a troubling lack of proper FBI procedure, it dismisses the possibility of improper conduct on the part of any FBI personnel.
How then would Mr. Horowitz and his team classify the following points?
- The Page/Strzok texts – when reading the texts between these two individuals, their intense dislike of Donald Trump, and their political alignment with Hillary Clinton is glaringly obvious.
- The basis used to obtain a FISA warrant against Carter Page was a frivolous and unsubstantiated “report” (the Steele Dossier)
- Said dossier was authored by a former MI6 agent (Christopher Steele) that the FBI had determined may not even be credible.
- Bruce Ohr warned the FBI (including upper level leadership) that the “Steele Dossier” was unverified and that Hillary Clinton paid for it
- Kevin Clinesmith, a former FBI attorney is under criminal investigation for allegedly altering information used in conjunction with renewing the Carter Page FISA warrant
- This was not a run-of-the-mill FISA warrant requested – the FBI requested a Title-1 FISA authorized surveillance warrant; any and all types of surveillance are authorized with this warrant. In other words, no holds barred. This type of warrant is normally used against suspected terrorists.
I could list more, but I think you get the idea here, there is a lot that IG Horowitz turned a blind eye to – why is that precisely? No one is going to hand me any hogwash that these things fall outside the purview of the IG’s investigation either when these events/information directly affected the decisions made in obtaining and renewing the FISA warrants.
Attorney General William Barr issued a scathing statement disagreeing with his own agency’s “watchdog,” according to NBC News:
“Barr, in a lengthy statement, called the FBI’s investigation into Moscow’s interference ‘intrusive’ and said it had been launched ‘on the thinnest of suspicions’ — even though the Justice Department’s inspector general report released Monday concluded that the overall probe was justified and not motivated by politics.
‘The Inspector General’s report now makes clear that the FBI launched an intrusive investigation of a U.S. presidential campaign on the thinnest of suspicions that, in my view, were insufficient to justify the steps taken,’ Barr said.”
Even AG Barr’s appointed criminal investigator, U.S. Attorney John Durham (also known to be straight shooter), according to National Review, disagrees with Michael Horowitz’s findings in this matter.
No person that is supposedly unbiased could look at all the available information in this investigation and not see political bias at the very least – that’s simply not possible. One doesn’t need to be a professional investigator to see bias and wrongdoing given the facts presented.
If there was no political bias or criminal misconduct as Mr. Horowitz concluded, then why did the FBI “lose” the Page/Strzok texts? Remember these two were intimately involved in the Clinton email investigation as well as having been on the Mueller team.
Why did the FBI and DOJ repeatedly slow-walk Congressional requests for information concerning the Trump/Russia probe?
If the FISA warrants were truly on the up and up, whey then did an FBI lawyer feel the need to fabricate information in order to ensure a renewal of said warrant?
The FISA court was never made aware that the information used to obtain the warrant was paid for by Hillary Clinton, nor that said information was unverified (a requirement for the warrant), and that the FBI had little confidence in its principle author, Christopher Steele; why is that?
Lisa Page can cry foul all she wants, while claiming ignorance of wrongdoing, and Peter Strzok can claim that he merely did his job and was fired for political reasons. That in no way detracts from the fact that criminal wrongdoing and political bias is being ignored by the Inspector General’s office once again.
Justice will not be served via the Inspector General. We can only hope that U.S. Attorney John Durham’s criminal investigation yields a more realistic showing of the facts, and criminal prosecution where applicable.
