Illinois Assault Weapons Ban Blocked by Federal Judge – Temporarily

The 2A and "scary guns" remain public enemy #1

There are several narratives floating around leftist corridors, one of which is the ignorance against the 2nd Amendment and AR/AK style weapons in general. On Friday, enforcement of the Illinois assault weapons ban was blocked by a Federal judge. U.S. District Court Judge Steven McGlynn issued an injunction against enforcement of the Illinois’ Protect Illinois Communities Act (PICA) until it is adjudicated as to its Constitutionality.

“The Court recognizes that the issues with which it is confronted are highly contentious and provoke strong emotions,” McGlynn wrote in his concluding remarks.

“Again, the Court’s ruling today is not a final resolution of the merits of the cases.”

McGlynn, who was appointed by former president Donald Trump, cited previous Supreme Court decisions that rolled back state legislation.

“The Supreme Court in Bruen and Heller held that citizens have a constitutional right to own and possess firearms and may use them for self-defense. [The ban] seems to be written in spite of the clear directives in Bruen and Heller, not in conformity with them,” he wrote. UPI

The action came at the same time as Washington’s Governor Jay Inslee signed their own “Assault Weapons Ban” into law. With his action, the state became the 10th to outright ban AR/AK style weapons, large magazines as well as various pieces and parts of them. Should be interesting, since Washington state is just a few miles from Idaho, which has no such law.  Legal analysts are not convinced the Washington law will stand up in court any more than the Illinois version. Inslee also signed the law in spite of clear directives from the Supreme Court.

The narrative is wrong

From ignorance as displayed by CNN over Texeira’s “arsenal” which was full of guns with orange tips (imitation guns), to people like Shannon Watts from Moms Demand Action who ignorantly claimed that there is no background check on long guns after a Texas mass shooting by an illegal immigrant on Friday. All purchases of firearms require a background check, regardless of where they are purchased – it’s a federal law. Not that it has actually stopped mass shootings, but it’s a reality, nonetheless, and people who claim there are no background checks are ignorant. Then there are the liberals and media who consistently call ARs “automatic weapons.” They are not.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

The 2nd Amendment continues to be a point of contention, because ignorance is rampant, and emotions run high when tragedy strikes. Self-defense is a right, not a privilege.  Will any of these bans hold up at the SCOTUS?Time will tell. Pro-gun groups are working hard to grab even the smallest of wins.
