Georgia: Harris County Sheriff Mike Jolley is a 20 year Army veteran. And he is about as unpolitically correct as they come. He’s not shy about saying what he thinks, either. Recently, he put up a sign at the border of Harris county that reads: “Our citizens have concealed weapons. If you kill someone, we might kill you back. We have one jail and 356 cemeteries. Enjoy your stay!”
He’s actually put up controversial signs before. In 2015 he posted one that said “WARNING: Harris County is politically incorrect. We say: Merry Christmas, God Bless America and In God We Trust. We salute our troops and our flag. If this offends you…LEAVE!” That sign went viral and landed the Sheriff on Fox and Friends.
The Sheriff wants people to enjoy their visits…as long as they follow the law. Coming to Harris County, Georgia with nefarious intent could be fatal, and he’s not afraid to tell folks that. The Sheriff said that the reponse to his sign has been “98 or 99 percent positive.”
“The verbiage of this is just tongue-in-cheek to the fact that we have a lot of concealed weapon cards going out right now, and I truly believe in my citizens in the county protecting themselves, that if someone comes up here and tries to harm them, they will use [their weapon] in a lawful manner.” Sheriff Jolley
The opposition, and there is a lot of it, have stated that the sign is “unconstitutional.” Except that he pays for the signs, which he switches out every 6 or 7 months, with his own money.
