Harris County Constable Precinct 4 Deputies Ambushed – 1 Dead, 2 Injured

Texas – Three Harris County Constable Precinct 4 Deputies were ambushed early this morning in North Houston. One deputy is deceased, the other two underwent surgery: one from being shot in the back, and another shot in the foot. They were all shot from behind by an unknown suspect. Police have a person of interest in custody, but it is unclear whether that person is a suspect or a witness. They stated they are looking for a Hispanic male in his 20s.

The incident involving the Harris County Constable Precinct occurred at around 2:15 a.m. Saturday morning as all three were working a “law enforcement related extra job” (read that security job). The deputies heard a disturbance outside of the 45 Norte Sports Bar/Lounge in North Houston and thought it may be a robbery. They were in the process of arresting a person when they became the targets of an unknown suspect with a rifle.

HPD Executive Assistant Chief James Jones said during a news conference that the three deputies were working an extra shift at the 45 Norte Sports Bar and Lounge when two of the deputies heard a disturbance outside. The deputies believed a robbery was occurring and attempted to take a suspect into custody. That is when police believe they were ambushed by a man with a rifle from behind.

Houston police, who are leading the investigation, say all three were rushed to Memorial Hermann hospital at Texas Medical Center. One deputy was confirmed dead…

“I’m asking for all our community’s thoughts and prayers for our families. My main concern right now are the families of the three officers involved and getting them the immediate care and support that they’re going to need,” said Harris County Pct. 4 Constable Mark Herman. “We’ve mobilized our victims assistance and we will be given them the support over the next couple of days. I want to thank the Houston Police Department for briefing me on everything that occurred at the scene, thus far.”

It is not yet known whether the deputies were able to return fire.

Will this presidential election be the most important in American history?

I just left Hermann Hospital where I sat in a room with one of my dead deputies who was ambushed by a coward. It’s probably one of the hardest things I’ve done in my career. I’m asking for all our community’s thoughts and prayers for their families…

I believe good triumphs evil, and what happened tonight was evil. And now, the good is going to sweep in, and I hope for swift justice. I know that the Houston Police Department is going to do a very thorough investigation.”

A procession was held as the body of the unnamed deputy was taken to the Medical Examiner. Those are always emotional things for every law enforcement agency involved. A lot of tears are shed.
