Your Guns at Stake After GOP Capitulates
After a 15 hour filibuster by Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT), Senate Republicans agreed to vote on gun control legislation. Gun control advocates want people on the “terror watch”and “no fly” lists banned from purchasing guns. They want “expanded” background checks for all gun shows and internet sales. They want all “assault rifles” banned, especially the AR-15.
There are some GOP members vowing to stand strong against further gun control, but the main question is, will they?
These measures would not have stopped the Orlando Shootings
Here are the facts, none of which liberals or even the GOP seem to be able to grasp:
The so-called “watch lists” are arbitrary. They are subjective and often include people who have never been charged with any crime. Only the FBI can add someone to those lists.
Omar Mateen already passed “expanded background checks” even though his own father was a radical Muslim who favored the Taliban. He was not on a “terror watch list” or he would not have been able to work for the DHS. That was government failure, not a failure in the law.
He didn’t buy his guns over the internet or at a gun show. Background checks are already conducted for gun show purchases when the purchase is made from a dealer with an FFL. There is no such thing as the “gunshow loophole.”
The left’s big lie
The Cato Institute reported,
Despite what some media commentators have claimed, existing gun laws apply just as much to gun shows as they do to any other place where guns are sold. Since 1938, persons selling firearms have been required to obtain a federal firearms license. If a dealer sells a gun from a storefront, from a room in his home or from a table at a gun show, the rules are exactly the same: he can get authorization from the FBI for the sale only after the FBI runs its “instant” background check (which often takes days to complete). As a result, firearms are the most severely regulated consumer product in the United States — the only product for which FBI permission is required for every single sale.
The Truth
The 2nd Amendment is the very thing that has kept our nation safe for over 200 years. The pressure to ban “assault weapons” is growing at a fever pitch, as people listen to and believe the emotional reactions.
To our legislators:
Remove the emotion, look at the facts, and don’t leave Americans defenseless against Jihadists or radical groups bent on killing us.
